Chapter 7 - The Final Boardroom Massacre

Three months later.
The grand boardroom of Sterling Enterprises was packed to absolute capacity. Every major shareholder, board member, and regional director sat around the massive mahogany table, whispering nervously among themselves.
The doors swung open.
Julian walked in first, wearing a razor-sharp charcoal suit, his expression like cold granite. But it was the person walking beside him that made the entire room gasp in collective shock.
Claire Sterling.
She looked breathtaking. Dressed in an emerald designer pantsuit, her hair pulled back into a sleek, flawless ponytail, she radiated an aura of untouchable power. There was no trace of the woman who had tumbled down the stairs; she walked with the predatory grace of a queen reclaiming her throne.
Arthur’s former loyalists—men who had tried to cover up Victoria's crimes—slumped back in their seats, knowing their days were numbered.
Julian took the head of the table, but he didn't sit down. Instead, he gestured to Claire.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Julian’s voice echoed across the silent, tense room. "As you know, recent events have necessitated a complete restructuring of our corporate governance and ownership tiers. Effective immediately, my wife, Claire Sterling, assumes the role of Executive Co-Chairperson and controlling majority shareholder."
A murmur rippled through the room. One senior board member, old-school billionaire Howard Vance, slammed his hand onto the table.
"This is unprecedented!" Howard barked, glaring at Claire. "An untested outsider taking controlling stake without a formal shareholder vote? We won't stand for it!"
Claire didn't flinch. She slowly stepped forward, placing both hands flat on the mahogany table, leaning in slightly.
"Unprecedented, Howard?" Claire’s voice was cool, crystal-clear, and laced with absolute authority. "Let’s talk about precedents."
She clicked a remote in her hand. The massive projection screen behind the board table lit up instantly.
Displayed on the screen wasn't financial data. It was a detailed, meticulously organized web of illicit offshore accounts, tax evasion schemes, and illegal corporate kickbacks—signed off by Howard Vance and three other directors sitting right at the table.
Howard’s face turned the color of spoiled milk. He half-rose from his chair, pointing a trembling finger. "Where... where did you get those? Those are classified internal audits!"
"When you spend months lying in a hospital bed recovering from a near-fatal fall, you have a lot of time to think," Claire said softly, a dangerous smile touching the corners of her lips. "And when you have complete access to the family’s private servers, you find things. Things like the embezzlement of pension funds, money laundering through shell companies, and proof of who helped finance Victoria’s personal offshore accounts."
The entire room fell into a terrifying, suffocating silence. Nobody dared to breathe.
Claire straightened up, buttoning her jacket with deliberate slowness.
"You all thought I was just a trophy wife," Claire said, her eyes sweeping over every terrified face in the room. "A convenient target to be pushed aside when I became inconvenient. But you made one fatal miscalculation."
She paused, letting the silence crush them.
"You forgot that I didn't marry into the Sterling fortune to be saved. I married into it to conquer it."
Julian looked at his wife with absolute, unwavering adoration. He raised a hand toward the double doors.
The heavy oak doors pushed open again. This time, federal agents and state prosecutors marched directly into the boardroom, binders in hand.
"Howard Vance, Arthur Sterling Jr., and associates," the lead federal agent announced, pulling out a warrant. "You are under arrest for corporate fraud, money laundering, and obstruction of justice."

As the agents swarmed the table, snapping handcuffs onto the wealthiest men in the city, Claire turned her gaze toward the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the sprawling skyline of Manhattan.
The city was theirs. Every brick, every tower, every dollar.
