Chapter 2 - THE BOSS’S GAMBITIn the master office overlooking the warehouse, Ricardo Falcone paced like a caged tiger. He poured a glass of scotch, his hands uncharacteristically steady.

"She’s a nobody, boss," Gus said from the doorway. "Background check came back. Charlotte Holloway. Widow of a disgraced vet. Lives in a rental in Dundalk. Works three jobs. No criminal record. No connection to the family."
"Then explain how an animal that hasn't let a human touch him in eleven years—an animal that bit the hand off the last man who tried to cage him—knelt at her feet," Ricardo snapped, his voice a low, dangerous rumble.
"Maybe he sensed Tobias," Gus suggested.

Ricardo froze. Tobias. His brother, whose mysterious death eleven years ago had been the catalyst for Ricardo’s rise to power. If this woman had anything to do with his brother, if she knew what had actually happened that night on the docks...
"Bring her up," Ricardo said, his eyes narrowing. "And bring the dog. I want to see this myself."
