"Then you have a choice," I said, my heart pounding in my chest. "You can kill me, and the data goes to the authorities the moment my phone stops receiving a signal. Or, you can help me finish what Tobias started."
Ricardo stared at me. He was calculating the cost of my life against the collapse of his empire.
"You're a widow," he said, his voice tinged with a strange, dark admiration. "You have no support. No money. No weapons."
"I have Nero," I said, patting the mastiff’s head. "And I have the truth. In this city, that’s more than enough."
Ricardo turned to the window, his silhouette dark against the city lights. "Gus," he shouted.
