Chapter 11 - The Secret PartnershipThe transition from corporate tyrant to full-time family man was not smooth.

Inside Marrow Holdings, Richard Vance was steering the ship through stormy waters while investors whispered about my sudden retreat. But I didn't care about the stock ticker anymore. My primary boardroom was now a sunlit Tribeca nursery, and my board members were two three-year-olds with a penchant for throwing wooden blocks at my Italian leather loafers.

Three months into our reconciliation, Elena and I had established a fragile, beautiful rhythm. The dark shadow of the past—the hospital visits, the hidden pregnancy, the lingering resentment—was slowly dissolving under the warmth of shared breakfasts and bedtime stories.

Yet, secrets had a way of lingering in the corners of a billionaire’s life.

It happened on a crisp Tuesday morning. Elena had taken Leo and Julian out for their weekly pediatrician check-up, leaving me alone in the penthouse office. I was reviewing some architectural sketches for a new community park we were funding in Brooklyn when my secure, encrypted private phone rang.

The caller ID showed a restricted international number.

I frowned, clicking accept. "Marrow."

"Mr. Marrow," a crisp, accented British voice came through the line. "I am calling on behalf of Vance Capital in London. We are executing the final transfer of assets for Mr. Julian Vance."

I froze, my hand tightening around the receiver. "What transfer? Julian is working out of our Manhattan branch."

A short, polite laugh echoed from across the Atlantic. "Sir, Mr. Vance resigned his executive position with your firm six weeks ago. Furthermore, he has been quietly liquidating his secondary trust accounts to fund a joint venture—registered under Mrs. Elena Marrow's name."

The room suddenly felt ice cold.
