Chapter 4 - The Betrayal Within"Save your breath, Tobias," Julian said, stepping smoothly between me and Elena, wrapping a possessive, familiar arm around her waist. "The game is over."

I stared at them, my vision tinting red at the edges. Julian—the man I had pulled out of a struggling boutique law firm, mentored, promoted, and trusted with the keys to my kingdom—was standing in my office, holding my wife, looking down at my sons.
"Get your hand off her," I snarled, taking a slow, lethal step forward.
Julian didn't flinch, though a bead of sweat rolled down his temple. He had the corporate backing, the legal standing, and, as it turned out, the ultimate trump card.
"You can't touch me, Tobias," Julian smiled, a cold, calculated smirk that mirrored the ones I used to flash my board members. "In fact, you might want to look at the paperwork I just had hand-delivered to your corporate registry downstairs."
My mind raced. "What paperwork?"
"A custody petition," Elena spoke up, her voice steady, though her green eyes avoided mine. "Filed in the state of New York this morning. Julian and I aren't just getting married, Tobias. We're filing for joint custody of Leo and Julian. And since you're legally listed as an absent, estranged spouse who hasn't provided a single cent of child support for the past three years..."
She didn't need to finish the sentence. The legal implications hit me like a freight train.
As a billionaire titan of industry, my personal life was constantly under a microscope. A custody battle involving hidden heirs, a disgruntled ex-wife, and my own high-ranking executive sleeping with my estranged spouse would create a public relations nuclear winter. Marrow Holdings stock would tank twenty points by opening bell tomorrow.
"You planned this," I whispered, looking directly at Julian. "Every single piece of it. The expansion into Boston three years ago—that wasn't a corporate posting. You arranged it. You placed her there."
Julian chuckled, tightening his grip on Elena’s waist. "Credit where credit is due, boss. You taught me how to think three steps ahead. I simply applied your own playbook."
Fury, cold and absolute, replaced the shock. I walked back to my desk, picked up the silver fountain pen I used to sign billion-dollar acquisitions, and looked at the two little boys who had my eyes.
"You think you can steal my family, Julian?" I asked softly, spinning the pen between my fingers. "You think a few legal maneuvers can keep me away from my blood?"
"They don't know you, Tobias," Elena said, her voice finally breaking, tears shimmering in her eyes. "To them, Julian is the one who reads bedtime stories, who wipes their tears, who shows up. You're just a ghost in a charcoal suit."

That hurt worse than any corporate betrayal ever could.
"Watch me prove you wrong," I said, leaning over the desk. I picked up the unsigned divorce papers, tore them cleanly down the middle, and let the pieces flutter to the floor. "The divorce is canceled. And the war has just begun."
