Chapter 1 - THE GRAVE OF SHALLOW BREATHS

Viral Title: The Husband Claimed She Was Dead. But The Ax-Wielding Maid Knew The Terrifying Truth...

The silence in the funeral hall wasn't just quiet—it was suffocating.

The tap from inside the coffin echoed like a gunshot through the vaulted marble chamber. A hundred eyes swung from the splintered white oak to the man standing at the altar: Arthur Sterling, the grieving billionaire widower whose eyes had suddenly gone black with pure, unadulterated terror.

"Get her away from there!" Arthur roared, his voice cracking as he lunged toward the maid, Maya. "She's desecrating my wife's body! Security, remove this psychotic bitch!"

Two heavy-set security guards in sharp suits bolted down the center aisle, but Maya didn't flinch. Driven by an adrenaline rush that defied human strength, she grabbed the heavy steel axe off the floor, whirled around, and held it out with trembling, blood-stained hands.

"TOUCH ME AND I'LL TAKE YOUR LEGS OFF!" Maya screamed, her bright orange uniform torn at the shoulder, soaked in sweat and crushed mahogany dust. "She's breathing! I felt the warmth on the wood!"

THUMP.

A distinct, unmistakable fist slammed against the underside of the shattered lid.

The crowd gasped in horror. Several elderly women fainted onto the carpet. A murmur swept through the rows of black-clad elite like wildfire.

"Clara..." Maya fell back to her knees, using her bare fingers to tear at the jagged slivers of white wood. Splinters drove deep under her fingernails, but she felt no pain. "Hold on, Miss Clara! I’m getting you out!"

Arthur charged forward himself, his hand reaching into his tailored jacket, pulling out a small silver pocketknife. "She's unstable! The body is producing post-mortem muscular spasms! It’s a scientific phenomenon! Step back!"

"Spasms don't knock in rhythm, Arthur!" Maya shrieked, swinging the axe butt-first into his chest.

Arthur gasped, tumbling backward into a sea of floral arrangements.

With a final, desperate roar, Maya jammed the flat edge of the axe under the heavy brass latch of the coffin lid and levered her whole body weight downward.

CRACK!

The lid gave way, falling sideways onto the marble floor with a deafening thud.

The entire room leaned forward, holding their breath.

Lying inside, wrapped in a silk shroud, was Clara Sterling. Her skin was pale as alabaster, her lips blue, but her chest... her chest was rising and falling in violent, desperate gulps of air. Her eyes snapped open—clouded, bloodshot, and wild with terror.

"A-Arthur..." Clara croaked, her voice like grinding stones.

The hall erupted into utter pandemonium. Photographers began flashing cameras rapidly; guests scrambled over chairs to get a look; phones were raised to record the impossible resurrection.

Arthur scrambled to his feet, his face twisted into a mask of frantic control. "It's a miracle! Oh God, my wife is alive!" He threw himself over the coffin, attempting to wrap his arms around Clara, but Maya shoved him hard against the alter.

"Don't touch her!" Maya spat. "You gave her the poison! I saw the vial in your study last night!"

Clara’s trembling hand reached up, her fingernails scratching deeply into Arthur's cheek as he tried to lean down. She stared at the crowd, her throat working silently before she managed to squeeze out three terrifying words:

"He... buried... me..."

Before anyone could react, Arthur pulled a tiny remote control from his pocket and pressed a button. Suddenly, the heavy iron security shutters of the private funeral chapel began slamming down over every door and window, trapping the hundred high-society guests inside with a living corpse, a killer, and an axe.
