Chapter 10 - THE ICE KING’S LEDGERThe sun sank lower over the East River, casting long, amber rays across the sprawling stone estate and turning the dark water into a sheet of liquid copper.

Inside the grand foyer, beneath the towering crystal chandelier that had witnessed so many dark deals and blood oaths, a single heavy wooden ledger sat open on a mahogany pedestal.

It was bound in black leather, its pages filled with decades of names, numbers, debts collected, and accounts settled.

But on the final, freshly turned page, written in neat, precise ink by a hand that had never held a weapon, were only a few simple lines:

Debts collected: Zero.

Accounts balanced: Permanent.

The Ice King’s ledger: Closed.

Adrian Vale stood in the doorway of the foyer, his hands resting quietly in his pockets, watching through the floor-to-ceiling glass as Maddie chased a stray autumn leaf across the lawn while her mother smiled from the kitchen window.

The garden was quiet. The city across the river was humming with its endless, violent rhythm.
