Chapter 2 - The Fall of Sterling Enterprises

Within twenty minutes, the elite guests had returned to their champagne, though the whispers were now a deafening tidal wave of speculation. Julian and Beatrice had been unceremoniously dumped outside into the cool New York night, their status reduced to social pariahs before the midnight hour even struck.

I took my seat at the head table, flanked by my legal counsel and the global directors of Vance Global. For years, I had operated from the shadows, watching corporate predators like Julian climb ladders built on stolen credit and institutional intimidation. Julian thought his marriage to me was a convenient shield—a quiet, domestic ghost who kept his mansion immaculate while he pursued corporate dominance. He never bothered to look beneath the surface because men like Julian are blinded by their own reflection.

My phone buzzed on the mahogany table. It was an encrypted text message from my lead forensic accountant:

All Sterling accounts frozen. Corporate headquarters is locked down. Their primary investors have officially pulled out.

I stared at the screen, a cold satisfaction settling into my bones. But this was only phase one.

"Call a full board meeting for 8:00 AM tomorrow," I instructed my chief of staff, Marcus Vance, who sat quietly to my right. "I want every asset belonging to Sterling Enterprises liquidated and absorbed into our portfolio by close of business."

"And Julian Sterling himself, ma'am?" Marcus asked, raising an eyebrow. "Do we press criminal charges for corporate espionage and financial fraud, or do we let bankruptcy finish him?"

I took a slow sip of sparkling water, watching the golden lights of Manhattan reflect through the crystal glass. "Bankruptcy is too merciful, Marcus. Let him watch every single thing he built slip through his fingers first. Then, we destroy him completely."
