Chapter 6 - Fire and ConcreteThe neon sign of the Blue Anchor Social Club in Red Hook, Brooklyn, buzzed and flickered against the damp, rain-slicked pavement of 3:45 AM. It was Moretti’s primary laundering front and tactical operations hub—a sprawling brick warehouse fortified with steel shutters and armed guards at every exit.

It was about to become a slaughterhouse.

Three matte-black armored SUVs slid silently out of the heavy autumn fog, cutting their headlights a block away. The doors swung open simultaneously, disgorging twenty Duca enforcers clad in tactical gear, armed with suppressed submachine guns and breaching charges.

At the front of the formation walked Lorenzo Duca.

He wore a heavy wool overcoat over his black shirt, his face carved from ice, holding a customized shotgun in his gloved hands. He didn't look like a man negotiating terms; he looked like the angel of death come to collect an overdue debt.

"Blow the side loading bay," Lorenzo commanded quietly.

Marco stepped forward, slapped a magnetic breaching charge against the heavy steel roll-up door, and punched the remote detonator.

BOOM.

The explosion tore through the reinforced metal with a deafening roar, ripping the door off its tracks and sending a shockwave of dust and sparks into the interior of the warehouse. Before the smoke could even begin to clear, Duca’s men flooded through the breach like a wave of dark water.

Gunfire erupted instantly from inside—wild, panicked flashes of light cutting through the gloom. But the Duca enforcers were surgical, moving with cold, ruthless efficiency.

Lorenzo stepped over the threshold, his shotgun coming up to his shoulder with effortless precision. A Moretti soldier leaped out from behind a stack of crates, raising a submachine gun.

Bang.

The slug caught the soldier square in the chest, lifting him off his feet and slamming him hard against a stack of stacked whiskey barrels. Lorenzo didn't even break stride.

"Sal!" Lorenzo bellowed, his voice cutting cleanly through the cacophony of gunfire and shattering glass. "Sal Moretti! Come out and face me, you coward!"

The shooting began to taper off as the Duca enforcers systematically cleared the corners, subduing the remaining Moretti guards with brutal efficiency. Within three minutes, the sprawling warehouse was entirely under Duca control.

From the second-floor mezzanine office, trembling and clutching a silver-plated revolver, stepped Sal Moretti. His face was slick with sweat, his expensive silk suit stained with scotch and panic.

"Duca!" Sal screamed, pointing his trembling pistol down at the courtyard below. "You insane bastard! You're breaking the commission charter! You're starting a city-wide war over a fucking maid?!"

Lorenzo stood motionless in the center of the warehouse floor, looking up at the mezzanine. He slowly lowered his shotgun, letting the weapon hang by its sling at his side.

"You didn't break a charter, Sal," Lorenzo said, his voice echoing off the high corrugated ceiling, cold and absolute. "You broke a rule older than the commission. You brought violence to a child."

"She's a nobody!" Sal shrieked, his finger twitching nervously on the trigger. "A stray! A maid's brat!"

"She's under my roof," Lorenzo replied softly.

Before Sal could squeeze the trigger of his pistol, Marco’s rifle cracked from a pillar across the room. The bullet caught Sal squarely in the wrist, shattering bone and sending the silver-plated revolver clattering over the second-floor railing to the concrete floor below.

Sal screamed, clutching his mangled hand, dropping to his knees.

Lorenzo didn't rush. He walked slowly up the metal staircase, each heavy step ringing out like a death knell. He reached the mezzanine, towering over the groveling caporegime, and grabbed him by the lapels of his ruined suit, hoisting him up until their faces were inches apart.

"Tell Vincent Moretti his reign in New York is over," Lorenzo whispered into the terrified man's ear. "Tell him I'm taking his docks, his warehouses, and his territory. And if I ever see another Moretti shadow within ten miles of my estate..."

Lorenzo shoved Sal back hard against the office window, shattering the glass behind him.

"...I won't just kill you," Lorenzo finished coldly. "I'll salt the earth where your family was born."
