Chapter 6 - A New Dawn, An Unexpected King

Hook: "You thought this was a story about a girl being saved by a monster. You forgot that sometimes, the girl becomes the monster."

Six months later.

The New York underground had completely shifted. With the Waverlys gone and the Russo family under heavy federal scrutiny following the anonymous leak of their old ledgers, a massive power vacuum had opened up in the city.

In a luxurious, high-end penthouse overlooking the Manhattan skyline, a private meeting of the city's remaining syndicate heads was taking place. The men sat around a massive glass table, arguing loudly about who would take control of the shipping docks.

The double doors to the boardroom swung open.

The room fell instantly silent.

Walking into the room was Ava Marlow.

She looked entirely transformed. Her dark, wild curls were styled into sophisticated, elegant waves. She wore a tailored, midnight-black power suit that emphasized her voluptuous, hourglass figure, commanding absolute authority. Her expression was cold, calculating, and utterly devoid of fear.

Behind her, walking three steps back as her personal enforcer, was Marco.

"What is the meaning of this?" one of the older bosses growled, slamming his fist on the table. "This is a private meeting for the families. Who let this girl in here?"

Ava walked to the head of the table, pulling out the velvet chair and sitting down smoothly. She placed a sleek, black laptop on the glass surface.

"My name is Ava Marlow," she said, her voice clear, icy, and completely commanding. "And as of twelve o'clock today, I own fifty-one percent of the Waverly holding companies, and I have just purchased the debt bonds of the Russo syndicate."

The men gasped, exchanging panicked looks.

"You can't do that! The Russos would never sell!" another boss shouted.

"They didn't have a choice," a deep, familiar baritone voice echoed from the back of the room.

Dante Russo stepped out from the shadows near the balcony. He looked tired, his classic suit replaced by a simple black shirt, but his eyes were fixed entirely on Ava—not with anger, but with intense pride and a fierce, unyielding devotion.

Ava didn't even look back at him. She kept her eyes locked on the bosses at the table. "Six months ago, an anonymous whistleblower sent the FBI the exact documents needed to freeze the Russo family's illegal assets. Dante Russo surrendered his criminal empire to save his men from prison. But the legitimate assets? The real estate? The shipping lines? I bought them all."

She leaned forward, resting her chin on her intertwined fingers. "Dante's father took my father's life. So, I took his family's legacy. Dante has spent the last six months willingly transferring every ounce of his power, his wealth, and his loyalty to me as penance."

The bosses stared in utter shock. The most feared mafia boss in New York history had willingly knelt and given his entire kingdom to a curvy event planner he had pulled from a broken champagne tower.

Dante walked up behind Ava's chair, placing his large, scarred hands on her shoulders. He leaned down, his voice audible to everyone in the room. "The Russo family no longer exists. There is only the Marlow empire now. I am simply her enforcer. If any of you have a problem with her rules... you deal with me."

Ava looked up, her icy exterior melting just a fraction as she met Dante's gaze. It wasn't a traditional love story. It was built on blood, vengeance, and a dark, unbreakable bond. He had made the whole room remember her name once—and now, she had made the entire city bow to it.

Ava turned back to the terrified bosses, a small, dangerous smile appearing on her lips.

"Now," Ava said, clicking open her laptop. "Let's discuss the new price of doing business in my city."
