My hair was swept up in an elegant chignon, and around my neck, my grandmother’s crystal necklace caught the brilliance of the room, sparkling with pure, unblemished light.
The ballroom was filled with hundreds of brilliant, successful, independent women and respected business leaders who looked at me not as a victim of a cruel prank, but as a visionary leader who had turned a betrayal into an empire.
Uncle Thomas walked up the stairs, holding a crystal flute of champagne, and handed it to me with a proud grin.
