Chapter 1 - THE ADMIRAL’S REBUKEThe silence in the mess hall was so profound that the hum of the overhead fans sounded like a jet engine. Chief Walker Reed, the man who had built his reputation on intimidation and combat prowess, stood frozen. His hand, still raised slightly from the assault, dropped to his side as if it weighed a hundred pounds.

Admiral Richard Bennett didn't repeat the question. He waited. The senior officers behind him, all men who commanded entire carrier groups, shifted uncomfortably, their eyes darting between the blood on my lip and the terrified face of the Chief.

"I... I had no idea, sir," Reed stammered, his military bearing crumbling under the cold, piercing gaze of the Admiral. "She was out of uniform, sir. Just a civilian observer."

"A civilian observer?" The Admiral’s voice was a low, dangerous rumble. He turned to me, his expression softening into one of genuine concern. "Captain Elena Vance, are you injured beyond this?"

Captain. The word rippled through the mess hall like a shockwave.

Seventy-eight recruits suddenly realized they weren't looking at an "office girl," but at the legendary tactical analyst—the woman who had rewritten the manual on deep-cover intelligence operations.

"I’m functional, Admiral," I said, my voice steady, though my ribs pulsed with fire.

The Admiral turned back to Reed, his eyes narrowing. "You assaulted a ranking officer on an active base, Chief. You have just ended your career, your pension, and possibly your freedom. Security!"
