Chapter 4 - THE INTERROGATIONI spent the next forty-eight hours in an interrogation room, not as the victim, but as the lead investigator. Reed sat on the other side of the glass, his legendary arrogance stripped away.

"Who told you I was coming, Reed?" I asked, leaning into the light.

"Go to hell," he muttered.

"I’ve already been there. Twice. Once in Kandahar, once in the Pentagon basement," I said, dropping a folder on the table. "You have a sister in private debt, don't you? Fifty thousand dollars to the Syndicate. That’s why you’re doing this."

Reed’s resolve shattered. He looked at the folder, then at me. "If I talk, I’m a dead man."

"If you don't talk, you’re a prisoner for the next twenty years," I countered. "I can protect you, Reed. But you have to give me the name."
