Chapter 8 - A New Empire and Unexpected Finale

Three months later, the sun shone brightly over the grand terrace of the Thornton estate, reflecting off the sparkling waters of the Hudson River.

The corporate board meeting that morning had been historic. With Jason facing life imprisonment for attempted murder and corporate embezzlement, and Vivian stepping down to assume the role of chairperson emeritus, the board unanimously voted Ethan back in as Chief Executive Officer.

And me? I wasn't just a paper bride anymore.

Standing beside Ethan on the terrace, watching the ships sail down the river, I wore a dress I chose myself—a vibrant emerald silk that caught the afternoon light.

Ethan wasn't in a wheelchair anymore. He stood tall, leaning slightly on a sleek cane, his arm wrapped securely around my waist.

"You know," Ethan said with a faint, amused smile, looking down at me, "when my father arranged this marriage, I thought it was just another corporate obligation."

"And now?" I asked, raising an eyebrow playfully.

"Now," Ethan whispered, pulling me closer against his side, "I realize it was the only smart thing my family ever did."

From the doorway of the terrace, Vivian watched us with a rare, approving smile before turning back inside, leaving us to our future.

The debts from Yonkers were gone. The fear was gone. And as Ethan leaned down to kiss me—not as a contract, not as a sentence, but as a genuine choice—I knew that our story was only just beginning.
