Chapter 3 - THE UNHOLY ALLIANCE

Mark stared at the blood-stained diary on the floor, his heart hammering against his ribs. He slowly picked it up, opening the yellowed pages.
The handwriting was shaky, but unmistakable. It belonged to Eleanor.
“If anyone finds this, know that Richard did not act alone. Julian Vance—my husband’s business partner—helped him fake my death. Julian wanted the shipping company. Richard wanted the real estate. They kept me trapped, feeding me poison to keep me weak…”
Mark’s blood ran cold. Julian Vance was his father.
“Is this true?” Mark demanded, his voice shaking with pure rage as he stared at Richard.
Richard scoffed, turning toward the window. “Your father was broke twenty years ago, Mark. We did what we had to do to build an empire. You enjoyed the luxury, didn't you? The private jets, the ivy league education? It was all bought with that 'insane' woman's inheritance!”
Clara stood up, wiping the tears from her face. The fragile bride was gone; in her place was a woman fueled by betrayal and rage. She tore her veil off and threw it to the ground.
“The wedding is off,” Clara declared, her voice deadly quiet.
“You don't have a choice, Clara,” a deep voice echoed from the hallway.

Julian Vance—Mark’s father—stepped into the room. Behind him stood two heavily armed security guards. The doors were shut and locked from the inside.
“I’m sorry it came to this, son,” Julian said coldly, pulling out a silenced pistol. “But no one leaves this room until the contract is signed and the money is transferred. And as for the little girl… she’s lived seven years too long.”
