Chapter 6 - THE SILENT TRUTH

The words hung in the air like a heavy fog. Clara felt as though the earth had split open beneath her.

“What… what are you talking about?” Clara gasped, looking down at the young girl sitting beside her. “I’ve never had a child!”

“Eight years ago, when you were nineteen, you were in a severe car accident,” Dr. Samuel explained, navigating the dark, winding mountain roads. “You were in a coma for four months. What your father never told you was that you were pregnant when the accident happened.”

Clara stared at Lily in shock, her hand covering her mouth as tears streamed down her cheeks.

“Richard didn't want a child out of wedlock ruining your reputation or the family image,” Samuel continued. “When you woke up with amnesia regarding the months leading up to the accident, he told you the baby was lost. But your mother… your mother saved the baby. She delivered Lily in secret, keeping her hidden at the manor to protect her from Richard.”

Lily reached out her small hand and touched Clara’s wet cheek. “She told me you were my mommy,” Lily whispered softly. “She said you forgot about me because of a bad sleep, but that one day, you’d come back for me.”

Clara pulled Lily into a ferocious, sobbing embrace, kissing the top of her head. The pieces of her shattered life were finally coming together. Her father hadn't just stolen her mother—he had stolen her child.
