Chapter 3 - THE SKELETONS IN THE SPREADSHEETThe ballroom erupted into a low, collective murmur. Wealthy investors, local politicians, and board members stared in horror at the glowing numbers scrolling across the screen. Every column represented millions of dollars diverted from disabled veteran housing projects into private shell companies registered in the Cayman Islands.

"Look at row four hundred and twelve," Daniel instructed, tapping a few keys on the laptop console. "That’s the exact date of the Hurricane relief fund embezzlement. Three point five million dollars earmarked for rebuilding naval families' homes in Norfolk. Instead, it bought your secondary estate in Aspen, Robert."

"When I was eight years old," I said softly, my voice projecting across the silent room, "you told me that Callaways never show weakness because weakness is a disease. You taught me to smile through pain."

I reached up and touched my burning cheek, then smiled—not a broken smile of submission, but a razor-sharp, chilling grin that mirrored the exact expression he had worn moments after hitting me.

"Look at me now, Dad," I whispered. "How do I look?"
