Chapter 8 - The Plot Twist at the Summit

Six months later.

The city had moved on, but the legend of Ethan Sterling-Vance remained top-tier gossip.

Camila and her family moved back into their old estate, but the house felt like a gilded cage. The one million dollars sat in a bank account, untouched. Camila spent her days wandering through the empty halls, haunted by the memories of the man she had discarded. She tried calling him, showing up at his events, but she was permanently blacklisted. She was wealthy again—but completely broken.

Meanwhile, Ethan sat in the master study of the Sterling-Vance estate, reviewing final financial reports.

His grandfather, Arthur Vance-Sterling, walked into the room, leaning on his silver cane.

"You handled the Vance situation well, Ethan," Arthur said with a rare, proud smile. "You preserved our family honor and reclaimed our rightful standing. Now, the board wants you to finalize the merger with the European Crown Group."

Ethan signed his name on the final document and closed the folder.

"There's just one thing I need to tell you, Grandfather," Ethan said quietly, standing up.

Arthur frowned slightly. "What is it?"

Ethan took off his custom luxury watch and laid it on the desk. He pulled a heavy wooden box from his drawer and placed it next to the watch.

"What is this?" Arthur asked, opening the box.

Inside were full transfer deeds assigning 100% of Ethan's shares in SV Global, his real estate holdings, and his billionaire trust funds... over to a charitable foundation for homeless youth and low-income families.

Arthur’s eyes widened in horror. "Ethan! Have you lost your mind?! You are giving away the entire empire?! Billions of dollars?!"

Ethan looked at his grandfather with absolute clarity in his eyes.

"Four years ago, I walked away from this money to see if love was real," Ethan said softly. "I learned two things. First, that greed destroys everything it touches. Second... that holding this wealth made me as cold, cruel, and manipulative as the people I hated."

"You built all this revenge just to walk away?!" Arthur shouted, trembling with rage.

"I didn't do it for revenge, Grandfather," Ethan smiled gently. "I did it to settle the debt. The Vances are paid off. The Sterlings are dealt with. My family's pride is restored. But I will not spend the rest of my life chained to a golden throne, surrounded by people who only care about my net worth."

"Where will you go?!" Arthur demanded. "You’ll have nothing! You’ll be poor again!"

Ethan picked up a small canvas duffel bag sitting by the door—the same bag he had carried four years ago when he left home.

"I won't be poor, Grandfather," Ethan said, reaching for the door handle. "Because for the first time in my life... I am completely free."

Ethan walked out of the mansion, leaving behind the billions, the power, and the ghosts of his past.

THE END.
