Chapter 6 - THE BETRAYAL AT BLACKWOODEthan didn't hesitate.
He raised his weapon and fired a single shot, striking Knox in his right shoulder!
"AAGGHH!" Knox screamed, dropping his rifle and falling against the stone wall!
The remaining two guards loyal to Ethan instantly moved to secure the perimeter, throwing smoke grenades into the foyer to cover their retreat!
Ethan grabbed Knox by his tactical vest, slamming him hard against the wall!
"Why, Knox?!" Ethan roared, pressing the barrel of his pistol directly beneath Knox's jaw! "Ten years in the SEALs together! Why sell out my family?!"
Knox coughed, blood spattering his lip, but he let out a bitter, ugly laugh. "They offered me ten million dollars, Ethan! Ten million! You risked our lives for country and honor while the politicians got rich! Fenris promised me a way out!"
"Where is Victor Vance?" Ethan demanded, his voice dangerously quiet.
"He's at the harbor..." Knox gasped, struggling for air. "He's loading the dirty weapons onto the container ship The Iron Hydra... departing at 0600..."
"Daddy!" Eli’s terrified voice echoed from the top of the stairs!
A mercenary had slipped up the back fire escape and was holding a knife to Eli’s throat!
"Drop the gun, Captain Ward!" the mercenary sneered, holding the crying boy tightly! "Drop it or the kid dies right here!"
Reese, who had crawled around the side of the kitchen counter unseen in the thick smoke, stepped out silently behind the mercenary.
She grabbed a heavy iron poker from the fireplace mantle and swung it with all her strength!
CRACK!
The heavy iron bar struck the mercenary across the back of his head! He collapsed unconscious onto the stairs, dropping the knife!
Eli broke free, sprinting down the steps into Reese’s arms!

Ethan looked at Reese, his heart overflowing with intense, fierce admiration. "Get him to the subterranean garage! Now!"
