Chapter 9 - CLEARING THE NAMEBy 7:00 AM, the morning sun broke through the storm clouds over Ashborne Harbor.

A fleet of federal FBI vehicles and Department of Defense tactical units swarmed the docks, seizing the illegal weapons cache and placing the corrupted Police Chief Reynolds in federal handcuffs.
The encrypted hard drive recovered from Vance’s office fully exonerated Reese Callaway, proving the police warrant had been forged by syndicate operatives.
On the pier, an FBI ambulance sat with its doors open.
Reese sat on the back bumper, wearing a blanket over her shoulders, holding a cup of warm coffee.
Eli sat right beside her, happily eating a donut that a friendly federal agent had given him.
Ethan walked over, his chest freshly bandaged by federal medics, wearing a clean black shirt. He sat down beside Reese on the bumper, looking out at the calm, blue ocean waters.
"It's over," Ethan said softly. "The syndicate’s entire infrastructure in the state was dismantled an hour ago."
Reese looked at him, a tired but beautiful smile touching her lips. "So... I get my life back?"
Ethan turned his head, his dark eyes locking onto hers with a profound, unspoken intensity.
"I hope not," Ethan murmured softly.
Reese blinked, her heart skipping a beat. "What?"
Ethan reached out, gently taking her hand in his, interlocking his long fingers with hers.
"I don't want you to go back to your old life, Reese," Ethan confessed, his voice filled with deep, sincere emotion. "Eli and I... we don't want a life without you anymore."
Eli looked up from his donut, grinning brightly. "She’s our charge nurse forever, right Daddy?"

Ethan smiled warmly, looking down at his son, then back at Reese. "If she’ll have us."
Tears of pure happiness welled up in Reese’s eyes. She leaned in, pressing her lips against Ethan’s in a warm, deep, passionate kiss that sealed their future together under the morning sun.
