Chapter 4 - The Boardroom War

The corporate headquarters of Hastings Enterprises was a towering glass obelisk in the heart of Manhattan. On the 50th floor, the atmosphere was electric with tension.
Arthur Cole sat at the head of the massive mahogany boardroom table, looking like a king waiting to be crowned. Vanessa sat beside him, her face smug, wearing a white designer suit that screamed innocence. Around them sat the twelve board members of Hastings Enterprises, looking anxious and uncomfortable.
"Adrian Hastings has shown himself to be mentally unstable," Arthur announced to the board, his voice booming. "He has brought a maid's illegitimate child into his home, assaulted my daughter, and abandoned his duties. We must vote him out of the CEO position immediately to save our stock price."
"Is that so, Arthur?"
The heavy glass doors of the boardroom swung open.
Adrian walked in. He wasn't wearing his usual business suit. He wore a dark, military-style overcoat, his eyes cold and dead as a winter storm. Behind him walked Rosa, dressed in an elegant, tailored navy suit, looking every bit like royalty, holding Mia’s hand. Mia was wearing a beautiful white dress, her newly trimmed hair styled into a cute, modern bob that made her look incredibly charming.
"Adrian!" Vanessa gasped, standing up. "How dare you bring that servant and her bastard into this boardroom!"
"Watch your mouth, Vanessa," Adrian said, his voice sending a chill through the room. He walked to the opposite end of the table and stood, refusing to sit. "First of all, this child is not a bastard. She is my daughter. The sole, legal heir to the Hastings dynasty."
He threw a stack of documents onto the table. They slid across the polished wood, stopping right in front of the board members.
"These are the certified DNA results, verified by the Swiss Supreme Court," Adrian announced. "And these..." He threw another folder down. "...are the marriage certificates of my parents, which state clearly that any biological child of mine inherits 51% of the voting shares automatically upon my father’s passing, held in a trust managed by me. You cannot vote me out, Arthur. I own this company. My daughter owns this company."
Arthur Cole’s face darkened, but he didn't back down. He smirked. "A pretty piece of paper, Adrian. But your stock will plunge to zero by noon. We have already released the story of your 'assault' on Vanessa, along with your father's old financial discrepancies. You are ruined."
"Am I?" Adrian smiled, but there was no warmth in it. He turned to the large projector screen on the wall. "Let’s look at the morning news, shall we?"
He pressed a button on a remote. The screen flickered to life, showing a live press conference. But it wasn't about Adrian's alleged assault.
It was the Swiss Federal Police.
"We have arrested three operatives connected to Cole Industries in Geneva," the police spokesperson announced. "They have confessed to attempted murder and kidnapping on the orders of Arthur and Vanessa Cole. Furthermore, we have uncovered a massive money-laundering scheme involving the Cole family and several offshore accounts."
The board members gasped. Vanessa’s face went completely pale, her smugness evaporating in an instant.
"You think you are so smart, Adrian!" Arthur roared, slamming his hands on the table. "You think some Swiss police can touch me here? I have judges in my pocket! I have the senate!"
"But you don't have this," Rosa spoke up, her voice clear, strong, and unwavering. She stepped forward, looking Arthur directly in the eye. "Do you recognize me, Mr. Cole?"
Arthur frowned, squinting at her. "You're just a maid. A nobody."
"My name is Rosa Delgado," she said, her voice echoing in the silent boardroom. "But my mother's name was Sofia Delgado. She was the chief auditor for your shipping division twenty years ago. The one who discovered you were smuggling illegal weapons through the Hastings-Cole shipping lanes. The one who 'mysteriously' drowned in the Hudson River."

Arthur’s eyes widened in genuine horror.
Chapter Hook: Rosa pulled a small, rusted silver key from her pocket and placed it on the table. "My mother hid the original ledger in a Swiss bank vault. The key has been around my neck for twenty years. Ten minutes ago, the FBI seized that vault. You didn't just kill Adrian's mother, Arthur. You killed mine. And today, we are going to send you to hell."
