Chapter 6 - THE DARK SECRET IN THE YELLOW ENVELOPEThe hospital room fell into a profound, suffocating silence.

Andrés unfolded the paper. As his eyes scanned the handwritten lines written in Ofelia's sharp, aggressive cursive, the blood drained entirely from his face.
"Andrés? What is it? What does it say?" Jimena asked, noticing his hands begin to shake violently.
Andrés couldn't speak. He handed the letter to Licenciado Garza, who adjusted his glasses and read it silently. As the lawyer's eyes moved across the page, his professional composure cracked, replaced by genuine shock.
"My God..." Garza murmured, lowering the paper.
"What is this, Counselor? What did my mother hide from me?" Andrés finally choked out, his voice a hollow whisper.
Garza cleared his throat, choosing his words with agonizing care. "Mr. Salgado... according to this document, signed and notarized by a corrupted clerk twenty-five years ago... and backed by medical adoption surrender forms... you are not Ofelia Salgado’s biological son."
Jimena gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. "What?!"
"Read it," Andrés demanded, his chest heaving.
Garza read the excerpt aloud:
“To whoever reads this—though God willing, Andrés never finds out—he was never mine. On the stormy night of October 14th, 2001, my real son was stillborn in this very house. That same night, a terrified young woman from the capital knocked on my door begging for shelter while fleeing a powerful, dangerous family who wanted to steal her newborn baby. She died of internal hemorrhaging on my kitchen floor before the ambulance arrived. I buried her in the unmarked plot behind the tool shed. I kept her baby boy, registered him under my dead son's name, and raised him as my own to secure the family estate. If anyone ever digs up the past, let this confession stand as proof: Andrés belongs to a bloodline far more dangerous than ours.”
The room spun. Andrés gripped the edge of the hospital bed to keep from collapsing.
"A stolen child..." Andrés breathed, his mind racing through a maze of shattered memories. "All my life... every beating, every psychological trap, every time she made me feel like I owed her my entire existence... it was because I wasn't even her son. I was just a possession she stole to keep the family afloat!"

"This changes the criminal dynamics significantly," Garza said quickly, snapping back into lawyer mode. "If she legally committed identity fraud, kidnapping, and falsification of vital records twenty-five years ago, that is a federal non-bailable offense. It adds another fifteen years to her sentence."
"I don't care about her sentence anymore," Andrés said, looking down at his hands, realizing that everything he thought he knew about his identity was a complete, fabricated lie. "I need to know who my real mother was. The woman buried behind the tool shed."
