Chapter 9 - THE TRIAL OF THE CENTURY AND OFELIA'S FINAL DESPERATE GAMBITThree months later, the courtroom of the Federal District of Mexico was packed to absolute capacity.

The trial had become a national sensation, dominating headlines across social media, evening news broadcasts, and trending hashtags like #LaHerenciaDeOfelia and #JusticiaParaJimena.
In the defendant's box sat Ofelia Salgado and Bruno Salgado. Gone were Ofelia's arrogant sneer and theatrical confidence. Her hair was stark white, her posture broken, dressed in the coarse beige uniform of a maximum-security federal inmate. Bruno sat beside her, sobbing quietly into his cuffed hands, cursing his mother under his breath for dragging him into a life sentence.
On the prosecution side sat Andrés, dressed impeccably in a bespoke charcoal suit provided by his grandfather's tailoring house, sitting shoulder-to-shoulder with Jimena, who cradled her now seven-month, beautifully growing baby bump with a radiant, peaceful smile.
Standing behind them as a silent, protective wall of power were Don Fernando Valdés and a team of six elite corporate lawyers.
The judge, a stern woman with iron-gray hair, banged her gavel three times.
"All rise for the sentencing of Ofelia Salgado and Bruno Salgado."
The courtroom went dead silent.
"Ofelia Salgado," the judge began, her voice echoing coldly off the marble walls. "You have been found guilty on all counts: aggravated kidnapping, identity theft, child abduction, corporate embezzlement, unlawful imprisonment, and conspiracy to commit bodily harm against an expectant mother. Given the premeditated, predatory nature of your crimes across two and a half decades..."
Ofelia suddenly lurched up from her seat, grabbing the glass partition with both hands, her face twisted in a mask of pure, unadulterated venom.
"You can't do this to me! I raised him! I fed him! He’s nothing without me!" Ofelia screamed, pointing a crooked finger directly at Andrés. "Without me, he’d be a nobody in the dirt! Andrés! Tell them! Tell the judge you’re my son!"
Andrés didn't flinch. He didn't blink. He simply looked at the woman who had tormented his wife, abused his trust, and lied to him his entire life, and spoke with calm, absolute finality:
"My name is Andrés Valdés. My mother was Elena Valdés. You were nothing more than a thief who stole my life in the dark."
Ofelia let out a blood-curdling screech of pure rage before the bailiffs forcefully slammed her back down into her chair, clamping handcuffs tighter around her wrists.
"Ofelia Salgado, you are hereby sentenced to forty-five years in federal prison without parole. Bruno Salgado, for your direct participation in domestic terrorism, kidnapping, and assault, you are sentenced to twenty-eight years."
