Chapter 6 - The Confession“You,” Malcolm hissed, taking a stumbling step into the room. Saliva flecked his lips as his composure completely shattered. “You did this. You engineered all of this.”

Elena calmly set her pen down. “I cleaned up your mess, Malcolm. There is a distinct difference.”

“You ruined me!” he screamed, lunging forward, though he stopped short when he realized Silas Reed was standing quietly in the shadows near the window, holding a digital recorder. “I gave you everything! I made you a queen, and you stabbed me in the back the moment things got difficult!”

Elena stood up. She wasn't shouting. Her voice was terrifyingly calm, cutting through his hysterical rant like a scalpel.

“You didn't make me anything, Malcolm,” she said, walking slowly around the desk until she stood just a few feet away from him. “Before I met you, I recovered millions of dollars from corporate thieves who thought they were smarter than the law. I chose to step back because I believed in a partnership. I believed in loyalty.”

She tilted her head, her gaze piercing right through him.

“For fifteen years, I covered your financial errors, hosted your investors, managed your lies, and pretended not to notice when you treated me like a piece of furniture. And how did you repay that loyalty? You forged my signature, risked my family’s trust, and plotted to throw me out on the street with pennies so you could fund a twenty-five-year-old Instagram influencer.”

Malcolm stared at her, his chest heaving. All the arrogance, all the corporate dominance he had projected for decades had evaporated, leaving behind a pathetic, terrified man.

“Elena,” he whispered, his voice cracking as he reached out a trembling hand. “Please. We’ve been together for fifteen years. We can fix this. I can give up the firm. We can start over. Just... drop the charges. Tell them it was a misunderstanding.”

Elena looked at his outstretched hand as if it were a dirty rag.

“There is nothing to fix, Malcolm,” she said quietly. “The divorce is finalized under an expedited hardship clause. The house is sold. The assets are recovered. And the federal investigators are waiting in the lobby.”
