The sun dipped below the tree line as Dana pulled her sedan into the driveway of her house on the outskirts of Raleigh.

The front porch lights were already on, casting a warm, golden glow across the newly planted flower beds and the welcoming brass door handles.

Inside, the house smelled of roasted garlic, fresh rosemary, and warm bread—dinner prepared by Sophie, who was humming softly in the kitchen as she set the dining table.

Dana stepped inside, unbuttoning her jacket and hanging it neatly over the back of the entryway chair—just as she had done every single day of her life.

She walked into the kitchen, leaning against the doorway with a gentle, contented smile.

Sophie turned around, holding a wooden spoon, and smiled back.

Dana pushed off the doorway, walking over to help set the table, knowing that whatever tomorrow brought, the perimeter was secure, the family was safe, and the battle was finally won.
