Chapter 15 - The Ambush at Lake Geneva

At 2:00 AM, the forest roads surrounding Lake Geneva were shrouded in thick fog. I parked my SUV half a mile down a gravel track and proceeded on foot, equipped with a rain jacket, thermal optics, and the keycard Amelia had provided.
The facility looked like an elite private residence tucked deep in the woods, surrounded by a ten-foot security fence equipped with motion sensors. Using the keycard at the side gate, the lock clicked open silently.
I navigated the grounds, avoiding the security patrols, until I reached the lower level of the main compound. Through the reinforced glass windows of the subterranean laboratory, I saw steel centrifuges, medical monitors, and rows of cryo-storage tanks.
In the center of the room stood William, wearing a white lab coat over his clothes, examining a glowing vial under a high-powered microscope. Beside him sat Dr. Vance, who had somehow been released on federal bail earlier that evening.
"The concentration is perfect," Vance was saying, his voice carrying through an exterior ventilation grate. "The Kell-negative markers in Noah's blood have completely bound to the synthetic peptide. Once we harvest the stem cells from the new fetus in Grace's womb, the serum will be fully stabilized."
"And the mother?" William asked, not looking up from the microscope.

"She won't survive the extraction procedure," Vance replied casually. "We'll frame it as a late-stage pregnancy complication."
Rage swept through me like a wildfire. I pulled my weapon, aimed it at the glass lock mechanism, and fired three rounds into the door frame.
