Chapter 3 - The Diamond Ring in the Garbage Bin

The media circus outside the Vanguard building was blinding. Flashbulbs illuminated the night sky as dozens of journalists screamed questions. But inside the main lobby, the atmosphere was deadly quiet.
Charles Sterling walked through the glass doors, surrounded by six broad-shouldered security details. He looked immaculate—a true politician with silver hair, a blinding smile, and a tailored American flag pin on his lapel. Beside him walked Victoria Vance, her face pale but her chin still held high, though her eyes scanned the room with growing anxiety.
"Where is he?" Charles demanded, looking directly at Julian, who stood at the reception desk. "Stop this ridiculous theater, Julian. The press thinks a dead billionaire is sweeping the floors. Show me the actor you hired to manipulate Vanguard's stock prices."
The elevator doors at the back of the lobby chimed.
Out stepped Arthur Sterling. He hadn't changed out of his dirt-streaked street cleaner uniform. He was still holding the old straw broom in his right hand. The contrast between the billionaire politician and the ragged cleaner was stark, yet as Arthur walked forward, his posture radiated an ancient, undeniable authority that made Charles's bodyguards instinctively step back.
"Hello, Charles," Arthur said softly.
Charles stopped dead in his tracks. The political smile melted off his face, replaced by a raw, primal horror. "Arthur... You... It's impossible. You died in the Atlantic."
"I survived the cold water, brother. But the concrete of New York? That's a much harder place to survive," Arthur replied, his voice echoing in the vast marble lobby.
Victoria Vance gasped, her hands flying to her mouth as she looked at Arthur's face beneath the dirty cap. "You... you're the old man... from this afternoon..."
"Ah, yes," Arthur turned his gaze to her, his expression utterly blank. "The trash belongs on the pavement, right, Victoria? Tell me, how much is your husband's company worth tonight? Zero? Or perhaps a negative balance?"
"Arthur, please!" Victoria cried out, suddenly realizing the catastrophic mistake she had made. She threw herself forward, completely forgetting her dignity. "I didn't know! It was a joke! I can apologize! Look!"
In a desperate, frantic bid for forgiveness, she ripped a 10-carat flawless diamond ring off her finger—an heirloom worth millions—and held it out to him. "Take it! Please, just reinstate the Vanguard merger! Don't ruin us!"
Arthur looked at the blinding diamond in her trembling hand. Then, he slowly pointed his broom toward a gray plastic public garbage bin near the lobby entrance.
"Drop it," Arthur commanded.
"What?" Victoria stammered.
May you like
"You said it yourself today, Victoria. That's where trash belongs. Drop the ring in the garbage, or your husband goes to federal prison by midnight."
💥 CHAPTER 3 HOOK: With tears streaming down her face, Victoria slowly walked over to the garbage bin and dropped the multi-million-dollar ring into the trash. The sound of it hitting the plastic echoed like a gunshot. But Charles didn't care about Victoria. He stepped closer to Arthur, a demonic grin slowly returning to his face as he whispered near Arthur's ear, "You think you've won because you survived? Look at the news, brother. Look at what I did to your legacy while you were playing in the dirt."
