The estate went into complete lockdown as Derek was dragged into the guest wing under guard. But as Ethan searched Derek’s drenched coat for weapons, he found a bundle of letters addressed to Aria—letters dating back fifteen years. Aria hadn't grown up oblivious to the family war; she had been secretly corresponding with her banished uncle in prison. Confronted in the library, Aria didn't back down. "He told me the truth, Dad!" she cried, tears streaming down her cheeks. "He sent me the medical records from the night of the fall! Mom was never rushed to the hospital for a miscarriage—she was admitted under a false name for an abortion two days before the incident on the stairs!" Ethan staggered backward, the room spinning as the foundation of his entire life crumbled beneath him.
