"It’s... it's impossible," Dr. Aris muttered, his face draining of color. "The neural pathways in Lucas’s left eye weren't damaged. They were hijacked. A nanotech dampener, designed to feed off the bio-electric energy of the optic nerve. It intercepted the visual data before it reached the brain and transmitted it elsewhere."

"To the person who controls the project," Maya interrupted, her voice mocking. The handcuffs rattled as she leaned forward. "Twelve years ago, your company, Caldwell Tech, pioneered 'Project Argus'—a neural-link interface meant to restore sight. But your board of directors realized it was worth far more as an undetectable spying tool. They needed a live human host to test the prototype. Someone whose daily life would expose them to the highest levels of global corporate espionage."

Ethan’s heart stopped. "No. I shut Project Argus down myself. It was too dangerous."

"You shut it down on paper," Maya countered, her eyes flashing with anger. "But your inner circle kept it alive. They needed a host who would never be suspected. A child. A blind boy who sat in the room while the tech mogul father discussed multi-billion-dollar mergers, government defense contracts, and global trade secrets. Lucas wasn't blind, Mr. Caldwell. He was a walking, breathing audio-visual camera for your worst enemies."
