Chapter 5 - HORIZON OF THE BLIND

"The moment I pulled the parasite out of your left eye, it triggered a countdown," Maya whispered, her face pale. "The parasite in your right eye is programmed to release a lethal dose of neurotoxin directly into your brain stem if the system is compromised. We have less than two hours."

Ethan burst into the room, having been alerted by his tech team of a massive, unauthorized data breach originating from within his own house.

"We need to get him to a hospital! A real one!" Ethan shouted, panic taking over.

"No hospital can extract this, Mr. Caldwell!" Maya yelled back. "The only place that has the surgical equipment advanced enough to remove Node B without triggering the toxin is the original facility where it was manufactured. The underground lab beneath the Horizon Medical Foundation."

Ethan gasped. "The Horizon Foundation? That’s... that’s my wife’s charitable organization. Helena's foundation."

A heavy silence blankets the room. Lucas looked at his father, his chest tightening. His mother, Helena Caldwell, had died in a tragic car accident ten years ago. Or so he had been told.

"Your wife didn't die in an accident, Ethan," a cold, aristocratic voice echoed from the doorway.

Ethan, Lucas, and Maya whipped around. Standing at the entrance of the room, flanked by four of Ethan’s own security guards who now had their weapons pointed directly at Ethan’s head, was a woman dressed in a pristine white business suit.
