Chapter 3 - THE BLOOD ON THE PIANO KEYS

"Security!" Ethan bellowed, but Dr. Aris was faster. He pulled a compact, high-frequency sonic disruptor from his pocket and pressed the trigger.
A piercing, high-pitched whine blasted through the room. Ethan and the guards collapsed to the floor, clutching their bleeding ears. Lucas screamed as his newly sensitive eyes and ears overwhelmed his brain.
Through the chaos, Dr. Aris didn't run for the exit. Instead, he pulled a surgical scalpel, his eyes locked onto Lucas’s remaining clouded eye—the right one. "If they find out what's in the second eye, we're all dead!" Aris screamed, lunging at the helpless boy.
SMASH!
Maya, having violently shattered her own thumb to slip out of the handcuffs, slammed a heavy metal medical tray across Dr. Aris’s face. The doctor crashed into the glass partitions, shattering them into a thousand pieces. He groaned, coughing up blood, before looking at Maya with absolute terror.
"You're... you're one of the escapees from the underground lab," Aris wheezed. "The Oversight... The Oversight will wipe this entire city off the map before they let you expose them."
Before Ethan could recover enough to interrogate him, Dr. Aris bit down violently on his own jaw. Within seconds, his eyes rolled back, foam bubbling at his lips. Cyanide.
The room fell into a suffocating silence, broken only by the rapid beeping of the heart monitors.
Ethan stood up, shaking, looking at the corpse of the doctor he had trusted for over a decade. His empire was built on a foundation of vipers. He turned to Maya, who was casually snapping her dislocated thumb back into place without a single tear.

"What do you mean by 'the second eye'?" Ethan asked, his voice dead and cold.
Maya looked at Lucas, pity finally softening her hardened gaze. "The left eye was a receiver. The right eye... holds the kill-switch."
