Chapter 1 - The Bloodline Untangled

The Photograph That Shattered a Billionaire's RealityAlejandro’s hands shook so violently that he nearly dropped his encrypted phone onto the polished mahogany desk. The digital file sent by his investigator, Mateo, glowed with a sickening brilliance in the dimly lit executive office. It was a photograph taken exactly nine months after the night he had thrown Carmen out into the freezing rain.

It wasn't a picture of her with another man. It was a medical record from a charity clinic on the outskirts of Monterrey—a birth certificate and a DNA profile that Mateo had pulled from the hospital's secure server.

The document listed the mother as Carmen Garza. The father’s name was left blank, but attached to the file was a mandatory genetic screening conducted due to the twins' premature birth. The compatibility match with Alejandro’s own medical history, which Mateo had cross-referenced from a premium insurance database, was absolute.

$100\%$ Paternal Probability.

The twins were his. They weren't the product of a cheap affair. They were the heirs to the Garza fortune, born in a sterile, underfunded charity ward while he was buying Valeria diamond tennis bracelets.

But it was the second photograph in the file that made the blood freeze in his veins. It was a security camera still from the night of the alleged theft—the night his grandmother’s gold-and-emerald cross disappeared. The timestamp showed 3:14 AM.

The figure hovering over the family safe wasn't Carmen. The silhouette was unmistakable, even in the infrared lighting: it was Valeria’s personal maid, Juana, passing the velvet jewelry box directly into Valeria’s manicured hands.

"My God," Alejandro whispered, the weight of a monumental, catastrophic error crushing his chest. "What have I done?"

The Anatomy of a Frame-UpHe didn't just divorce her; he had systematically destroyed her. Prompted by Valeria’s venomous whispers, Alejandro had signed injunctions that froze Carmen’s personal bank accounts, claiming she had embezzled funds from his family’s charity foundation.

The "blurry photographs" of the roadside motel had been meticulously staged using a lookalike hired from a local theater troupe, paid for via a shell company registered in Panama—a company Alejandro now recognized as belonging to Valeria’s brother, Rodolfo.

He stood up, his chair crashing against the floorboards. The realization that he had forced the pregnant love of his life into absolute destitution, leaving her to forage for aluminum cans to buy cheap infant formula, mutated his grief into pure, unadulterated rage.

He dialed Mateo. "I need security details on Carmen immediately. Where is she sleeping? Where are my children?"

"Sir," Mateo’s voice sounded grim through the static. "She isn't just homeless. She's hiding. And she has every reason to be terrified. Valeria didn't just want her out of your house; she wanted her dead. I suggest you look outside your office window before you make your next move."

Alejandro rushed to the floor-to-ceiling glass. Down in the courtyard, Valeria’s sleek white Porsche was pulling into the executive bay. But behind it was a dark, unmarked suburban with tinted windows—the exact vehicle used by his family's private security force, the men Valeria had slowly replaced with her own loyalists over the past twelve months. They weren't there to visit him. They were tracking someone.

The Trapped BeastValeria burst into his office without knocking, her designer heels clicking sharply against the floor. Her face was flushed, her perfect makeup slightly marred by an uncharacteristic panic.

"Alejandro, darling, we have a crisis," she gasped, dropping her Hermès bag onto his desk, completely ignoring the papers scattered across it. "The board of directors is questioning the offshore allocations for the new refinery project. And... I saw you looking at that trash picker earlier. You've been distant all afternoon. You aren't seriously thinking about that crazy woman, are you?"

Alejandro forced his face into a mask of cold indifference, hiding the lightning bolt of hatred surging through his veins. He closed his laptop slowly. "Of course not, Valeria. I was merely shocked by how far someone can fall. Why do you ask? Does her presence bother you?"

Valeria narrowed her eyes, stepping closer until the scent of her expensive French perfume filled the space—a scent that now smelled to Alejandro like rotting copper. "She’s a cockroach, Alejandro. And cockroaches need to be stepped on before they spread disease. Don't forget what she did to your family. Don't forget the cross she stole from your sweet grandmother on her deathbed."

Hearing her speak of his grandmother made Alejandro’s jaw lock so tightly his teeth threatened to crack. He reached into his pocket, his finger hovering over the record button on his phone.

"You're right," he said softly, playing the fool one last time to buy the hours he needed. "She deserves nothing. I’m going to go to the country club to clear my head. Let’s look over the refinery documents tonight."

Valeria smiled, a triumphant, viper-like expression that didn't reach her cold eyes. "Good. Because I've already taken care of the... logistics regarding that woman. She won't be polluting our highway anymore."

The moment Valeria left the room, Alejandro received a text from Mateo:

They found her. The suburban is heading toward the abandoned railway yards near the northern slums. Carmen is there. They’re going to clean up the loose ends.
