Chapter 5 - THE COURTROOM COLLAPSE: THE FORGED SIGNATURE THAT SENT A BILLION-DOLLAR CEO STRAIGHT TO A MAXIMUM-SECURITY CELL!

The federal courthouse in Mexico City was packed to maximum capacity. Every major news network was broadcasting live from the steps. The case had shifted from a messy high-society divorce into a massive web of corporate fraud, medical malpractice, and forgery.
Adrián sat at the defense table, his skin an unhealthy shade of gray. His high-priced defense attorney looked sweating and anxious.
Across the aisle sat Valeria, flanked by a team of twelve elite prosecutors from the Montes Group's legal division. She looked immaculate in a midnight-blue power suit. Behind her, her parents sat like royalty, their expressions unreadable.
"Your Honor," Adrián’s attorney stood up, his voice cracking. "We move for a dismissal of the kidnapping and forgery charges. The DNA evidence was obtained without a proper warrant, and my client was under extreme psychological distress due to the sudden dissolution of his marriage."
The judge, a hardened woman with thirty years on the bench, looked down over her glasses. "Motion denied. The DNA screening was part of a standard post-natal medical procedure. Now, let’s address the matter of the forged divorce decree."
The prosecution called their first witness: Dr. Alejandro Vargas, the head of the forensic document unit.
"Dr. Vargas," the lead prosecutor asked, "can you explain the anomaly found on the defendant’s submitted divorce agreement?"
The doctor pulled up a giant digital display on the courtroom screens. It showed a highly magnified image of Valeria's alleged signature.
"If you look closely at the pixels along the curve of the letter 'V', you will see a microscopic pattern of digital noise," Dr. Vargas explained. "This is not ink from a pen. This is a high-resolution laser print of a signature that was lifted from a 2021 document. Furthermore, we recovered the defendant's personal laptop during the raid on his office. We found three separate drafts of this forgery, dated two months before the triplets were even born."
A gasp echoed through the courtroom.
Adrián jumped up, losing his mind. "She knew about it! She told me she would sign it! She’s setting me up because I left her! She’s using her family's money to buy the evidence!"
"Order!" the judge slammed her gavel down. "Mr. Velasco, sit down or I will have you removed!"
"But Your Honor, look at her!" Adrián screamed, pointing a shaking finger at Valeria. "She’s a snake! She lied about who she was for five years! She played me!"
Valeria didn't even flinch. She stood up smoothly, requesting permission to address the court. The judge nodded.
"Your Honor," Valeria said, her voice echoing with profound authority. "I spent five years building a life with a man I believed loved me for who I was. I endured his emotional absence, his financial control, and his cruelty. When I was in that hospital bed, broken and vulnerable after giving birth to three children, he didn't check their health. He didn't check mine. He brought his mistress to my bedside to humiliate me into poverty."
She turned her head slowly to look directly into Adrián’s panicked eyes.
"I did not hide my family’s name to deceive him. I hid it to protect myself from exactly this kind of predatory greed. The law does not protect a thief just because he is disappointed that his victim turned out to be stronger than he anticipated."
The courtroom erupted into applause. The judge slammed her gavel multiple times to restore order.
"Adrián Velasco," the judge pronounced, looking at him with utter condemnation. "In light of the overwhelming forensic evidence of forgery, coupled with the charges of corporate embezzlement and attempted child abduction, this court finds you a flight risk and a danger to society. Bail is permanently revoked. You will be remanded to the Altiplano Maximum Security Prison effective immediately pending final sentencing."

Adrián’s knees buckled. He collapsed onto the defense table, weeping openly as the guards dragged him toward the holding cells. As he passed Valeria, he sobbed, "Valeria, please... think of our history... think of the boys..."
"They aren't your boys, Adrián," she whispered coldly. "They are Montes. And you are nothing."
