Chapter 16 - The Titans of IndustryWhile peace reigned on the private island, the global corporate landscape was undergoing a seismic shift.

In a towering glass skyscraper in downtown Zurich, the board of directors of a rival international conglomerate sat in tense, hushed silence around a massive obsidian conference table. They were the financial backers who had secretly funded the Syndicate—the shadow players who thought they could manipulate the billionaire's empire from behind closed doors.
Now, they were staring at their quarterly financial terminals in absolute horror.
"It's a complete wipeout," the chief financial officer stammered, his face drained of all color as he stared at the flashing red lines of his screen. "Every single offshore asset, every shadow subsidiary, every untraceable account we used to fund the operation... they've all been frozen and systematically dismantled."
The CEO of the conglomerate slammed his fist onto the table. "By who?! We operated through layers of encrypted shell companies! No regulatory body has jurisdiction over those nodes!"
The heavy oak doors of the boardroom slowly swung open.
A single legal attaché walked in, carrying a slim, matte-black leather folder bearing an embossed obsidian phoenix logo. She didn't look at the panicked executives; she walked straight to the head of the table and placed the folder down with a quiet, deliberate thud.
"Not a regulatory body, gentlemen," a calm, digitized voice echoed from the room's communication speaker system, connecting directly from a secure satellite link. "An acquisition."
The conglomerate CEO slowly opened the folder. Inside was a single, legally binding corporate buyout agreement—valuing his entire multinational enterprise at exactly one dollar.
"You can't do this!" the CEO shouted, standing up so fast his chair crashed backward onto the floor. "This is a hostile corporate takeover! We will fight this in every international court on the planet!"
The voice on the speaker chuckled softly—a cool, melodic sound that carried the weight of absolute dominance.
"You are welcome to try, gentlemen," the voice replied smoothly. "Though it is rather difficult to litigate when your entire executive board has just been indicted for corporate espionage, international money laundering, and conspiracy against protected technological assets. Federal authorities are already waiting in the lobby."

As if on cue, the heavy double doors of the boardroom pushed open wider, revealing a squad of federal investigators flanked by digital forensic agents holding arrest warrants.
The global chess board had been swept clean. There were no rivals left.
