Chapter 2 - The Ghost of the Obsidian Lion

The revelation sent shockwaves through the Valenti syndicate. Ten years ago, the Leone Family ruled the underworld until a brutal betrayal wiped them out in a single night. Everyone believed the bloodline was extinct. No one looked for the last heir inside the body of a plus-size secretary working for their fiercest rival.

Roman locked Helena in his private study, standing by the fireplace while his heavily armed guards surrounded the perimeter. He poured two glasses of scotch, placing one in front of her.

"Six years," Roman said, studying her face. "You’ve been my assistant for eight months, but you've been in the shadows for six years. You took the insults. You let my men call you fat, lazy, and useless. Why?"

Helena picked up the glass, taking a slow sip. "Because men like you look at a woman my size and see an invisible target. You see someone who has given up. You don't see the muscle beneath the weight, and you certainly don't see a threat. It was the perfect camouflage while I rebuilt my family's fractured assets."

"And why reveal yourself now?" Roman stepped closer, his presence intimidating, but Helena didn't flinch.

"Because the Moretti family didn't just target you today, Roman. They targeted us. The man who ordered the hit on your life today is the same man who sold out my father ten years ago." Helena leaned forward, her eyes burning. "We have a common enemy. You have the muscle, and I have the names of every traitor inside your organization—including the one who let those shooters in today."

Before Roman could answer, the heavy oak doors of the study burst open.

It was Corbin Hale, flanked by three Valenti captains. "Roman! You can't trust this bitch! She’s a Leone! She’s a snake trying to infiltrate us! I say we kill her right now and dump her in the river!"

Helena didn't even look at Corbin. She simply smiled at Roman. "See? The first traitor just identified himself."
