Chapter 6 - The True Queen of the Underworld

Three days later.

The dust had settled over the city. The Moretti family was dismantled, and the Valenti syndicate had seized their territories.

Roman sat at the head of the black marble table, which had been polished clean of all bloodstains. The remaining captains sat in absolute, terrified silence. Beside Roman stood an empty chair.

The double doors opened, and Helena walked in.

She was no longer wearing the conservative navy dresses or the sensible shoes. She wore a tailored, sharp-shouldered black suit that accentuated her powerful curves. Her hair was slicked back, and on her right hand, the platinum Leone signet ring gleamed under the chandeliers.

She didn't sit in the empty chair beside Roman. Instead, she walked to the very end of the table, facing him.

"The city is ours, Helena," Roman said, a rare smirk playing on his lips. "A perfect 50/50 partnership. The Valenti muscle and the Leone intelligence."

Helena let out a soft, dark laugh that made the captains shiver.

"Partnership, Roman?" Helena asked, tilting her head. "You still think this was a coincidence?"

Roman’s smirk vanished. "What do you mean?"

Helena slammed a new file onto the table. "Ten years ago, my father wasn't betrayed by Moretti. He was betrayed by your father, the late Don Valenti. Moretti was just the hired gun."

The room went dead silent. Roman’s hand slowly drifted toward the drawer under the table where his gun was kept.

"Don't bother," Helena said smoothly. "I replaced the firing pins in all your guards' weapons this morning while I was preparing your 'morning coffee.' And as for your drawer..." She tossed a handful of metal pins onto the marble table. They clattered loudly.

Roman stared at the pins, then up at her, realizing the terrifying truth. She hadn't been hiding from the Morettis. She had infiltrated the Valenti organization from the very beginning to destroy them from the inside.

"You played me," Roman whispered, genuine awe mixing with the realization of his doom.

"You mocked me," Helena corrected, leaning over the table, her face inches from his. "Your men called me a decorative failure. You thought I was just a fat girl who was good with numbers. But I am a Leone. We don't just survive; we rule."

She signaled with her hand. The doors burst open, and thirty heavily armed soldiers—bearing the obsidian lion crest on their armor—flooded the room, disarming the Valenti captains in seconds.

Helena walked slowly to the head of the table. Roman stood up, realizing he was utterly defeated, and stepped aside.

Helena Leone sat down in the boss's chair, crossing her legs comfortably. She looked out over the empire she had just conquered with nothing but a silver pen, a brilliant mind, and a patience that had fooled the entire underworld.

"Now," Helena smiled, looking at the terrified captains. "Let's review the new contracts. And this time, make sure you pay attention."
