And the name on the corporate incorporation papers wasn't just an anonymous LLC.

It was co-signed by Rachel Morgan.

He hadn't just planned to leave her. He had planned to leave her legally destitute, stripped of their home, their savings, and her dignity, all while she played the dutiful, smiling wife hosting his forty-second birthday gala.

Emily clicked open a final PDF document dated three days ago: a real estate purchase agreement for a penthouse condo in downtown Chicago, bought outright with a cash wire transfer from their primary joint account.

Primary owner: Daniel Carter and Rachel Morgan.

Emily leaned back in her leather chair, a cold, sharp smile touching the corners of her lips.
