CHAPTER 3 — The Siege of Hayes Manor

Gunfire shattered the silence before the emergency lights fully activated.
Bullets tore through armored windows.
Security alarms screamed across the estate.
Amara stood frozen.
Christian grabbed her arm.
"Stay behind me."
She had expected panic.
Instead...
Every member of the household moved with military precision.
Hidden steel barriers sealed hallways.
Bulletproof shutters descended over windows.
Escape tunnels quietly unlocked beneath the mansion.
Christian's empire had prepared for war long before this night.
Diane monitored dozens of surveillance screens.
"Thirty-seven attackers."
"Four vehicles."
"Heavy weapons."
Christian remained calm.
"Victor?"
Diane zoomed in.
"There."
Victor climbed from a black SUV carrying an assault rifle.
His face twisted with rage.
But he wasn't leading.
A silver-haired man stepped out behind him.
Even Christian's expression changed.
"...Leon Moretti."
The name silenced the room.
Amara whispered,
"Who is he?"
Christian answered slowly.
"The only man I hoped never to see again."
Years earlier, Christian had walked away from Moretti's syndicate after refusing to traffic children through West Coast ports.
The split had started a silent war.
Now Moretti had come personally.
Not for revenge.
For the microchip.
Outside...
Victor shouted through a loudspeaker.
"Bring me my wife!"
Christian walked onto the armored balcony.
Rain poured over his black suit.
"You lost the right to call her your wife the first time you raised your hand."
Victor laughed.
"You think this is about her?"
Christian said nothing.
Victor pointed toward the mansion.
"She's carrying something worth billions."
Amara felt her knees weaken.
Christian glanced back.
"So that's what they believe."
Victor's smile widened.
"Five minutes."
"Or everyone inside dies."
Christian quietly closed the balcony doors.
He turned toward Amara.
Then said something that stunned every person in the room.
"Open the vault."
Diane blinked.
"Sir..."
"The vault."
She obeyed.
Hidden beneath the library floor...
A massive steel door slowly opened.
Christian looked directly into Amara's eyes.
"Your father didn't leave you evidence."
"He left you ownership."
"Everything inside belongs to you."
Amara stepped forward in disbelief.
The vault lights illuminated shelf after shelf of sealed documents, gold bars, encrypted servers, and legal files.
At the center...
A single envelope.
On it, written in fading ink:
"For my daughter... when she is finally free."
Amara reached toward it with trembling hands.
Behind her...
May you like
The first breach charges detonated against the mansion walls.
The real war had only just begun.
