CHAPTER 6 — The Mafia Boss Chose Love Over Power

The underground tunnel erupted into chaos.

Flashing lights illuminated clouds of smoke as Christian exchanged gunfire with Moretti's men.

Amara stayed close behind Diane, clutching the pendant so tightly it cut into her palm.

Then she heard a familiar voice.

"Amara..."

Victor emerged from the darkness.

His face was bruised.

His rifle hung loosely at his side.

"I never wanted this."

She stared at him in disbelief.

"You broke my ribs."

"You tried to kill me."

Victor lowered his head.

"They forced me."

"You expect me to believe that?"

Tears filled his eyes.

"They took my younger sister fifteen years ago."

"If I refused Leon..."

"They would have killed her."

Amara hesitated.

For the first time, she saw not a monster—

But a broken man consumed by fear.

Before either could move—

A gunshot echoed through the tunnel.

Victor suddenly staggered.

Blood spread across his shirt.

Behind him stood Leon Moretti.

The old crime boss lowered his smoking pistol without a trace of emotion.

"You've become sentimental."

Victor collapsed at Amara's feet.

With his final breath, he grabbed her hand.

"Don't..."

"...trust..."

He coughed violently.

"...the ledger."

His eyes closed forever.

Leon smiled coldly.

"Loose ends should never be allowed to speak."

Christian stepped out from the smoke, his pistol aimed directly at Moretti.

For a long moment, neither man moved.

Two kings.

One battlefield.

Moretti laughed.

"You could still rule half the West Coast."

"Give me the pendant."

Christian looked at Amara.

Then he did something no one expected.

He removed the pendant from his pocket...

...and tossed it into the underground river rushing beneath the tunnel.

Everyone froze.

Even Leon.

"What have you done?"

Christian's voice remained calm.

"I've spent twenty years building power."

He glanced toward Amara.

"She's spent twenty years losing everything."

"If I have to choose between my empire..."

"...or giving her a chance to finally be free..."

"I choose her."

The pendant disappeared beneath the rushing water.

Leon roared with fury.

"You fool!"

Christian smiled for the first time.

"You came here for evidence."

"You leave with nothing."

As Leon raised his weapon in rage—

The tunnel ceiling cracked.

The explosions above had weakened the ancient foundations.

Massive stones began crashing down around them.

Christian grabbed Amara's hand.

"Run!"

Behind them, the underground passage started collapsing, burying secrets that had controlled Seattle's underworld for decades.

May you like

Neither of them knew...

the greatest secret had never been stored inside the pendant at all.
