Chapter 4 - The Lab Results and The Framed Outcast

"Let go of me! I didn't steal it! She forced it into my hand!" Elena cried out, struggling against the iron grip of the security guards.
The elite crowd whispered and gasped, pointing fingers. Victoria fell into Julian’s arms, weeping theatrical tears. "Oh, Julian! It’s awful! I caught her red-handed in the hallway trying to slip your mother’s priceless necklace into her purse. When I confronted her, she tried to attack me!"
Julian looked down at the glittering diamond necklace on the floor, then up at Elena. His face was stone, unreadable and cold. "Is this true, Elena?" he asked, his voice dangerously quiet.
"No! She’s lying, Julian! Please, look at me, I didn't do this!" Elena begged, her eyes searching his for a single shred of trust.
But Julian turned his head away. "Take her to the holding room downstairs and call the police," he commanded the guards.
Elena felt her heart shatter. She was dragged away through the whispering crowd, thrown into a dark, windowless security room in the basement of the mansion, and the heavy steel door was locked behind her.
Sitting alone in the dark, tears of anger and betrayal streamed down her face. She had risked everything to protect an elderly woman who reminded her of her own family, and this was her reward. She took her phone out of her dress pocket—thankfully, the guards hadn't searched her thoroughly yet.
Suddenly, a notification popped up on her screen. It was an email.
From: Apex Toxicology Laboratories.
Elena’s hands shook as she tapped the notification open. Her eyes rapidly scanned the chemical breakdown report.
TOXICOLOGY FINDINGS: Sample contains high concentrations of Synthetic Phenanthrene Derivatives and a rare neurotoxin known as Carbofuran-B. When ingested daily, this compound systematically attacks the central nervous system, inducing severe tremors, cognitive confusion, and memory loss, perfectly mimicking advanced stage Parkinson’s disease. Long-term exposure (exceeding 6 months) results in permanent neurological paralysis or fatal cardiac arrest.
Elena gasped, dropping the phone onto her lap. It wasn't a natural illness. Evelyn Vance was being systematically, slowly murdered. And Victoria was the one administering the poison to seize control of the billion-dollar empire.
Suddenly, the heavy door clicked and swung open.
Elena braced herself, expecting the police. Instead, a tall, imposing figure stepped into the dim light. It was Julian. He was alone. He closed the door behind him and locked it from the inside.
"You have exactly two minutes to explain yourself before the police arrive," Julian said, walking toward her, his shadow looming large over her. "And choose your words wisely, Elena. My mother’s life and my company are at stake."
Elena didn't shrink away. She stood up, her eyes blazing with absolute conviction. She picked up her phone and thrust it into his chest.

"I don't care about your diamonds, Julian, and I don't care about your money," Elena said, her voice ringing with truth. "Look at this report. Your fiancée isn't trying to marry you for love. She is slowly poisoning your mother to death with a banned neurotoxin to steal her voting shares. If you arrest me tonight, you are signing your mother's death warrant."
CRITICAL HOOK: Julian snatched the phone, his eyes darting across the medical report. As he read the chemical analysis, the color drained completely from his face. A terrifying, murderous rage ignited in his eyes—but who was that rage directed at? Elena... or the woman he was about to marry?
