Chapter 5 - The High-Stakes Revelation

The silence inside the basement room was suffocating. Julian stared at the screen for what felt like an eternity, his knuckles turning white as he gripped the phone. The sharp, calculated billionaire looked, for a split second, entirely vulnerable.

"This... this is the tea Victoria has been giving her," Julian whispered, the horrifying realization clicking into place. He looked up at Elena, the cold mask finally melting from his face, replaced by profound remorse. "You... you were throwing it away. That's why my mother was better on the days you fed her."

"Yes," Elena said, her voice softening slightly. "I didn't steal that necklace, Julian. Victoria realized I was onto her. She needed me gone before I could prove what she was doing."

Julian closed his eyes, taking a deep, shuddering breath. When he opened them, the vulnerability was gone, replaced by a terrifying, cold fury. "The police aren't coming for you, Elena. I called them, but I told them there was a security breach involving a corporate spy. I just didn't realize the spy was sleeping in my own bed."

Julian unlocked the door and looked back at Elena. "The Board of Directors is meeting upstairs right now in the private conference wing. Victoria brought them here early before the gala ends to force an emergency vote. They are going to declare my mother legally incompetent and sign her shares over to Victoria’s trust. We have fifteen minutes to stop them."

"What do we do?" Elena asked, the adrenaline surging through her veins.

"We play their game, but we change the rules," Julian replied, a dark smirk playing on his lips. "Follow me."

Upstairs, in the soundproofed executive boardroom of the Vance Estate, a dozen elderly board members sat around a massive mahogany table. Victoria stood at the head of the table, looking triumphant, holding a stack of legal documents.

"As you can see from the medical evaluations provided by our family doctor, Evelyn Vance is no longer fit to hold executive power," Victoria stated smoothly, her voice filled with fake sorrow. "For the stability of Vance Enterprises, I urge you to vote 'yes' to transfer her proxy power to me immediately."

"The board is ready to vote," the chairman announced, raising his hand. "All those in favor—"

BOOM.

The heavy double doors of the boardroom were thrown open so violently they rattled against the drywall. Julian walked in, his presence commanding and terrifying. Beside him stood Elena, her emerald dress slightly wrinkled but her posture radiating unshakeable confidence.

Behind them, pushed in a wheelchair by a trusted security guard, was Evelyn Vance. She was dressed in her finest attire, her eyes sharp, alert, and filled with an icy anger that matched her son's.

Victoria’s jaw dropped. She staggered back against the table, her face turning a ghostly shade of white. "Julian... what is the meaning of this? And why is that... that criminal waitress in this room?"

"The only criminal in this room, Victoria, is you," Julian declared, his voice echoing like thunder through the silent boardroom. He slammed his phone down on the center of the table, projecting the toxicology report onto the massive presentation screen on the wall for every board member to see.

"What is that?" the chairman gasped, looking at the chemical structures.

"That is a certified forensic analysis of the tea my fiancée has been feeding my mother for the past six months," Julian announced, his eyes locking onto Victoria like a predator tracking its prey. "It contains Carbofuran-B. A lethal neurotoxin designed to mimic Parkinson's disease. Victoria wasn't caring for my mother. She was slowly assassinating her."

CRITICAL HOOK: Murmurs of horror exploded across the boardroom. Victoria began to shake, her eyes darting wildly toward the exits. "It’s a lie! It’s a fabrication by that worthless waitress! You can’t prove anything!" she screamed. But Elena stepped forward with a calm smile, holding up a small digital voice recorder. The trap was about to spring shut!
