Chapter 7 - THE FINAL OVERRIDE

"Stop her!" Caleb yelled, his eyes widening in sudden horror as he stared at the diagnostic readouts on his decryption deck. "She’s not trying to blow up Sophie's spine anymore—she’s triggering the main server dump!"

On the monitor, Eleanor pressed her thumb firmly against the center of her silver wrist band.

A sharp, deafening alarm wailed from the underground lab on the screen. The massive digital walls behind her flickered from a clean corporate blue to a harsh, bleeding crimson. Lines of code began scrolling downward at blinding speed.

"She's wiping the entire financial database," Sarah gasped, pulling out her radio. "All the offshore accounts, the transaction logs, the shell companies—it’s all being routed into an unrecoverable self-destruct loop!"

"Not if I can help it," Caleb muttered, his fingers flying across his portable decryption keyboard with impossible speed. Sweat beaded on his forehead as he fought against the automated firewall Eleanor had activated.

"Who the hell are you, anyway?" I asked, looking down at the former "homeless man" who had just saved my daughter's life.

"Former lead cyber-security architect for Vance Pharma," Caleb grunted without looking up, his eyes locked on his screen. "Until Eleanor tried to lobotomize me for whistleblowing five years ago. I've been living on the streets ever since, waiting for the exact second she unlocked the master firewall."

Across the room, Eleanor stared into her lab camera, her expression unchanging as the red warning lights flashed across her face.

"You can't save it all, Adrian," Eleanor’s voice echoed softly through the restaurant. "If I go down, the entire empire burns with me. Every hospital endowment, every research grant, every trust fund attached to the Vance name—turned to ash."

"Let it burn," I said firmly, looking down at Sophie, who wrapped her small arms tightly around my waist, burying her face in my jacket. "I don't care about the money, Mother. I never did."

Caleb slammed his palm down on the enter key of his deck.

CRACK.

On the screen, the crimson warning lights in the underground lab suddenly snapped into a solid, brilliant green. A massive dialogue box appeared over the scrolling code: FIREWALL BREACHED. DATA SECURED. ARCHIVE TRANSFERRED TO DOJ.

Eleanor’s expression finally fractured. Her mouth opened slightly as her wrist band powered down with a sharp hiss.

"No..." she whispered.

Before she could take another step, federal agents in the underground lab swarmed through the heavy doors, their zip-ties clicking into place around her wrists as they forced her down onto the cold concrete floor.

The live stream flickered once, twice, and then cut to black.
