Chapter 3 - THE BLOODLINE WAR

"Get my mother to the panic room!" Julian shouted, pulling a tactical sidearm from beneath his desk.
"I'm not leaving you!" Rose cried out, grabbing Julian’s arm. "I lost you once, Julian! I won't lose you again!"
Julian looked at her, his dark eyes ablaze with fierce love. "You won't lose me, Mother. But thirty years of debt are due tonight. Ethan, take her!"
Ethan gently but firmly pulled Rose toward the reinforced steel elevator at the rear of the command center. As the heavy doors began to close, Rose watched her two other sons, Marcus and Julian, take defensive positions near the reinforced glass windows overseeing the courtyard.
Outside, thunder roared as heavy rain began to pour over the estate, mingling with the sound of automatic gunfire.
Down in the subterranean panic room, Rose sat surrounded by monitors showing the chaos above. Ethan stood near the door, his eyes glued to a handheld control panel.
On the main screen, Leo Vance walked through the shattered glass doors of the estate lobby, his white suit splattered with mud and rainwater. He kicked over a marble statue, a sadistic smirk on his face.
"Julian!" Leo’s voice echoed through the intercom system. "Did you really think I didn't know who you were? Did you really think my mother was blind?"
Inside the control room above, Julian stood behind bulletproof glass, staring down at his half-brother through the monitor microphone.
"You always were an idiot, Leo," Julian’s voice echoed back through the building speakers. "You think you're a king, but you're just a puppet sitting on a throne built of stolen bone and blood."
Leo laughed, a manic, high-pitched sound. "You think you're clever, Julian! Or should I call you the pathetic little rat my mother stole from a slum? She didn't keep you out of pity! She kept you as an insurance policy! Do you really think your precious land deed matters? Look at your screens!"
Ethan zoomed in on the document Leo was holding up toward the lobby camera.
Rose leaned in, her blood turning to ice.
It was a certificate of executive authority—signed by the state governor—granting Eleanor Vance total immunity and emergency seizure rights over all contested corporate assets, effective at midnight.
"They bribed the highest levels of government," Ethan muttered, his jaw clenching. "If midnight strikes, the land deed becomes legally void. The state will seize the property and transfer it directly to Eleanor before we can present the evidence in court."
Rose looked at the digital clock on the wall.
11:15 PM.
They had forty-five minutes before Eleanor Vance became completely untouchable.
"We don't need the courts," Rose said suddenly. Her voice was no longer that of a victim. It was sharp, clear, and cold as iron.
Ethan looked at her, surprised. "Mother?"
"Your father used to say that when a wolf enters your pen, you don't call the magistrate," Rose said, standing up and walking toward the main console. "You burn the pen down with the wolf inside."
She turned to Ethan. "Can you override the broadcasting system of the Vance Global Corporate Tower in the city center?"
Ethan blinked, then a dark smile spread across his face. "I built the network, Mother. I can hijack every television, radio, and digital billboard within a fifty-mile radius."
"Then stop fighting Leo in this house," Rose commanded. "We are going to the tower. Eleanor is sitting in her penthouse right now, waiting for midnight, isn't she?"
"Yes," Ethan said. "She's hosting a private celebration with the foreign investors."
"Then let's give her something to celebrate," Rose said, her eyes flashing with a terrifying brilliance. "Ethan, tell Julian and Marcus to stop defending this room. Fall back to the helipad. We are taking the fight to her."
Above, Julian heard Ethan’s message through his earpiece. A slow, lethal smile spread across his face. He looked down at Leo, who was screaming orders to his men to breach the inner security doors.
"Leo!" Julian called over the intercom. "Enjoy the house. It's yours. But the company? The company dies tonight."
Before Leo could react, smoke canisters detonated throughout the lobby, blinding his men. Julian and Marcus sprinted toward the rear stairs, ascending rapidly toward the rooftop helipad where a sleek black helicopter was already warming its rotors.
Minutes later, the helicopter lifted into the stormy night sky, rising above the burning estate and banking sharply toward the glittering skyline of the city center.
Inside the cabin, Rose sat between her sons. The rain lashed against the windows, but inside, the air was pure steel.

"Forty minutes until midnight," Marcus reported, checking his encrypted tablet. "Eleanor has locked down the top three floors of the Vance Tower. She has sixty armed guards and the city's private police force on her payroll securing the perimeter."
"Let them guard the doors," Rose said, holding the dented spoon with the carved flower tightly in her hand. "They don't know who is coming."
