Chapter 5 - The Digital Avalanche

The red button on Alex's phone didn't launch missiles. It launched the truth.
The moment his thumb pressed against the screen, a cascading sequence of automated scripts executed across three continents simultaneously.
BEEP. BEEP. BEEP.
Inside Apex Global Defense's downtown headquarters, the primary server cluster in the basement data center began flashing a violent, rhythmic crimson. Warning sirens wailed through the reinforced concrete corridors as emergency protocols kicked in.
Back at L'Orangerie, the heavy mahogany doors of the private dining room slammed open.
A terrified young executive burst into the room, his face pale, gasping for breath as he clutched a vibrating tablet against his chest. "Mr. Thorne! Mr. Vance! You... you need to see this right now. The servers—they've been compromised!"
Marcus Vance jumped out of his chair, knocking his wine glass over. The dark red liquid spilled across the white linen tablecloth like fresh blood.
"What are you talking about? Who authorized an access override?" Vance roared, his face contorting with rage.
The executive didn't answer. He simply turned the tablet around, holding it up so the glowing screen faced the table.
Headline banners were already scrolling across international news feeds in bright red letters: BREAKING: Internal Documents Leak Expose Apex Global Defense in Illicit Military Cyber-Espionage and Global Surveillance Conspiracy. Julian Thorne’s face went completely bloodless. The elderly CEO slowly turned his head, his cloudy gray eyes locking onto Alex Carter with an expression of pure, unadulterated shock and fury.
Alex remained seated, leaning back comfortably in his velvet chair. He crossed one leg over the other, resting his elbows on the armrests, looking every bit the tech visionary the magazines had described—only now, the vision was absolute destruction.
"You..." Thorne whispered, his voice trembling with ancient rage as he pointed a shaking finger at Alex. "You set us up."
"I protected my intellectual property," Alex corrected calmly, his voice steady and cold. "You tried to turn my software into a totalitarian weapon and use me as a scapegoat. You forgot one basic rule of the digital age, gentlemen: Never back a coder into a corner where they have root access."
Marcus Vance lunged across the marble table, his hands outstretched like claws, aiming directly for Alex's throat. "I'll kill you, you little—"
Before Vance could take two steps, the private dining room doors were kicked wide open again.
This time, it wasn't a panicking executive.
Four heavily armed federal agents in tactical black gear, led by an FBI cyber-crimes division director holding an arrest warrant, swarmed into the room, their weapons raised and trained directly on Marcus Vance and Julian Thorne.
"Marcus Vance! Julian Thorne! Stay where you are! Put your hands on the table where we can see them!" the lead agent shouted, his voice echoing off the mahogany walls.
May you like
Vance froze, his hands hovering over the table, his face twisted in a mask of impotent fury. He glared across the table at Alex, his eyes promising murder.
Alex simply offered a polite, chilly nod, stood up from his chair, buttoned his Tom Ford jacket, and walked calmly past the armed agents toward the exit, leaving the titans of the defense industry to crumble beneath the weight of their own corruption.
