Chapter 9 - The Final StandThe bulletproof glass of the Maybach muffled Julian’s voice as he tapped lazily against the driver’s side window with the barrel of his gun.

“Roll it down, Richard,” Julian called out, a sickening grin stretching across his face. “The game is over. The board has invoked the emergency asset forfeiture clause. The trust funds, the real estate, the medical patents—everything reverts to the corporate entity. And as for the bloodline heirs... well, accidents happen in subterranean maintenance tunnels every single day.”
Richard’s hand slid silently down toward the center console, his fingers flicking a hidden toggle switch.
“You’re too late, Julian,” Richard said calmly, raising his voice so it carried through the specialized acoustic glass. “The federal drop-box already decrypted the commitment papers three minutes ago. The Department of Justice is executing search warrants on the corporate headquarters right now.”
Julian’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second. But then he laughed, a sharp, ugly sound.
“You think the DOJ cares about a forty-year-old family dispute, Richard? Billionaires don't go to prison. Their lawyers do. And today, I’m the sacrificial lamb. But before I go down, I’m wiping the slate clean. No heirs, no controversy, no loose ends.”
He raised the pistol, aiming directly at the driver’s side window, right at Richard’s chest.
“Mommy!” Sophie shrieked, throwing her arms around my neck.
“Stay down!” I screamed, shielding her body with mine.
Suddenly, a blinding flash of emerald green light exploded from the ceiling above Julian.
CLANG!
A heavy industrial maintenance hatch blew off its hinges, crashing directly onto Julian’s shoulder and sending him sprawling across the wet concrete. His pistol flew out of his hand, skittering across the oil-slicked pavement.
From the open shaft above, three armed federal agents in tactical gear dropped swiftly to the ground, their rifles instantly trained on Julian as he writhed in pain on the floor.
“Federal Law Enforcement! Stay down!”

Richard let out a long, shuddering breath, his shoulders finally dropping as the tension broke. He looked back at me and Sophie, his eyes shining with unshed tears.
“It’s over,” he whispered. “You’re safe.”
