Chapter 7 - The Confrontation and the Ultimate Betrayal

"Going somewhere, Gerald?" Marcus asked, his voice cutting through the silent ballroom like a razor.

Gerald swallowed hard, his hands gripping the edges of the podium so tightly his knuckles turned white. He forced a strained, nervous laugh. "Marcus! What a... what a wonderful surprise. We were just discussing your medical retirement transition, ensuring the company remains stable while you—"

"While I was locked away, medicated, and framed for incompetence so you could quietly loot four billion dollars into offshore accounts?" Marcus finished for him.

A collective gasp echoed through the crowd. Reporters began frantically typing on their phones; camera shutters fired in a relentless, blinding storm.

"That’s a lie! Complete slander!" Gerald shouted, his face flushing bright red as panic overtook his corporate composure. "He’s unwell! Look at him! He’s using a deranged cleaning woman and her child to stage a pathetic coup against the board!"

Gerald pointed a shaking finger directly at Rosa and Lily. "Security! Remove these vagrants and this unstable lunatic from the premises immediately!"

Two massive private security guards in black suits stepped forward, reaching out toward Rosa and the little girl.

Rosa instinctively pulled Lily behind her, her heart hammering against her ribs, terror threatening to paralyze her.

"Touch them," Marcus said, his voice dropping into a register so chilling, so lethal, that the guards froze in their tracks, "and you will spend tomorrow morning being arraigned on federal conspiracy charges."

Marcus turned his gaze back to Gerald, holding up his secure tablet. With a flick of his thumb, he mirrored his screen onto the massive LED projection monitors behind the stage.

Instantly, glowing in bright, unedited detail for every investor, journalist, and board member to see, were the signed wire transfer receipts, the Cayman Island shell company registrations, and the recorded phone calls of Gerald Pike coordinating the hostile takeover and the medical sabotage of Marcus Hail.

The room erupted into absolute chaos.

Directors Vance and Sterling bolted from their front-row seats, desperately trying to slip toward the exit. Reporters shouted over one another, microphones thrust forward like lances.

Gerald Pike stood paralyzed on stage, his empire crumbling into dust in a matter of seconds.

"It's over, Gerald," Marcus said softly, stepping closer to the stage.
