CHAPTER 2 — THE BILLIONAIRE WHO CHOSE TO SWEEP FLOORS

Silence swallowed the ballroom.

Ryan looked from Ethan to the head of security, convinced it had to be some elaborate joke.

Then the chairman of Brooks Global slowly walked down the grand staircase.

He was a man whose signature alone could move billions of dollars.

Without hesitation...

He stopped in front of the old janitor.

Then bowed.

Deeply.

"Welcome home, Mr. Brooks."

The room erupted into gasps.

Ryan felt the blood drain from his face.

"No..."

"No... that's impossible..."

The chairman turned toward the stunned audience.

"For thirty-eight years, the founder of Brooks Global chose to remain anonymous."

"He believed titles create fear."

"But character creates truth."

He looked toward Ethan.

"And for the last twelve years..."

"Our founder has worked inside this company as a janitor."

Shock rippled through the ballroom.

Some executives staggered backward.

Others began searching their memories.

The cruel jokes.

The insults.

The videos.

The laughter.

Every humiliating moment flashed through their minds.

Ryan's hands began to shake.

"This can't be..."

Ethan slowly removed the faded janitor jacket.

Underneath, he wore nothing expensive.

Just a clean white shirt.

Simple.

Elegant.

Timeless.

"I wanted to know," Ethan said quietly, "what kind of people my company had become."

No one spoke.

"I built Brooks Global so ordinary people could build extraordinary lives."

"But somewhere along the way..."

"It became a place where wealth mattered more than kindness."

He reached into his pocket and placed a worn notebook on the table.

Its pages were filled with dates.

Names.

Observations.

For twelve years.

Every act of cruelty.

Every act of honesty.

Every ignored employee.

Every quiet hero.

Nothing had escaped him.

Ryan's knees buckled.

"I'm... I'm sorry."

"You don't understand..."

"I didn't know..."

Ethan's eyes never hardened.

"Exactly."

"You didn't know."

"And that's why you revealed who you really were."

Within the hour, twelve senior executives were dismissed.

Ryan lost not only his position...

But every stock option, every bonus, every privilege.

His access card stopped working before sunrise.

Meanwhile...

Lily, the young intern who had once thanked a lonely janitor, received the biggest surprise of her life.

Ethan personally offered her a leadership scholarship.

"Compassion," he said, "is harder to teach than finance."

She cried.

Months passed.

Brooks Global transformed.

Anonymous employee reviews.

Equal dining rooms.

Executive volunteer shifts.

No reserved elevators.

The culture changed completely.

People began calling it the most humane corporation in America.

Then...

One winter morning...

Everything stopped.

An official statement appeared on every employee's screen.

Ethan Brooks had passed away peacefully in his sleep.

The nation mourned.

World leaders sent condolences.

Stock markets paused trading for one minute.

A private funeral was announced.

Attendance by invitation only.

Ryan received one.

Even after everything.

He couldn't understand why.

Neither could anyone else.

When guests arrived at the old Brooks family estate...

Each invitation contained only one handwritten sentence.

"If you still seek the truth... come."

The funeral chapel felt strangely cold.

At the front rested a black oak coffin.

No flowers.

No photographs.

Just silence.

Then...

The enormous wooden doors slowly opened.

A young woman in a long black coat walked inside.

No one recognized her.

She approached the coffin.

Placed one hand upon it.

Then calmly announced...

"My name is Amelia Brooks."

"I am Ethan's daughter."

The room exploded into whispers.

But Amelia wasn't finished.

She looked directly at every executive.

"My father left one final instruction."

"No one opens this coffin..."

"...until the knocking begins."

The chapel fell into terrified silence.

Five seconds passed.

Ten.

Fifteen.

Then...

Knock.

Everyone froze.

Another knock.

May you like

This time louder.

Coming from inside the coffin.
