CHAPTER 6 – The Video That Destroyed the Sterling Empire
The massive steel door groaned open.
Inside the vault were dozens of dusty boxes, old accounting ledgers, and shelves packed with forgotten files.
Everything had been untouched for decades.
William carefully opened the first box.
Nothing but faded contracts.
The second contained old newspapers.
The third...
Made his blood run cold.
Hundreds of birth certificates.
Many had been altered.
Children's names had been changed.
Parents had disappeared from the records.
Samuel whispered,
"This wasn't just corruption..."
"It was human trafficking."
William's hands shook.
Then he found a locked metal case.
Inside was an old VHS tape labeled in black marker:
DO NOT DESTROY.
Fortunately, a vintage television and VHS player still sat in the corner of the vault.
William inserted the tape.
Static filled the screen.
Then...
A younger Elena Cross appeared.
She wasn't alone.
Standing beside her...
Was William's adoptive father.
And behind them...
Several powerful politicians and business leaders.
The recording captured every word.
One politician asked,
"What about the workers who know too much?"
Elena smiled without emotion.
"The fire will solve that."
Another voice laughed.
"And the child?"
Elena answered coldly,
"He'll become a Sterling."
"He'll never remember who he really is."
Samuel collapsed into a chair.
Tears streamed down his face.
For twenty-three years...
He had blamed himself.
When, in reality, his son had been stolen to protect a billion-dollar criminal empire.
Before William could stop the recording...
Every light inside the vault suddenly went out.
Darkness swallowed the room.
Then came the unmistakable sound...
