🔥 CHAPTER 9 — "THE LETTER HIDDEN FOR FORTY YEARS"

One month after receiving Henry Whitmore's extraordinary gift, Ethan was sorting through boxes that had belonged to his grandmother.

Her little house was almost empty now.

Most of her clothes had been donated.

The kitchen still smelled faintly of pancakes.

Her reading glasses remained on the bedside table, exactly where she had left them.

Ethan wasn't ready to move them.

As he carefully opened an old wooden trunk tucked beneath her bed, he found faded photo albums, worn recipe books, and dozens of handwritten birthday cards she had saved since he was a child.

At the very bottom lay a small metal box.

It was locked.

Taped to the lid was a handwritten note.

"For Ethan... only after I've gone."

His hands trembled.

Inside the box were military photographs of his grandfather, several yellowed letters, and a sealed envelope addressed simply:

"My grandson."

Ethan slowly opened it.

The paper had become fragile with age.

Marta's handwriting was unmistakable.

My dear Ethan,

There is one secret I never had the courage to tell you.

I didn't hide it because I was ashamed. I hid it because I wanted you to grow up believing that love matters more than blood.

Ethan's heart pounded.

He kept reading.

When your mother became pregnant, your biological father disappeared before you were born.

Years later... he came back.

Ethan froze.

He read the sentence again.

His father...

Had returned?

The letter continued.

He came to our door one rainy evening.

He wanted to meet you.

But he also admitted that he had only returned because he had become ill and had no one left.

He wasn't looking for a son...

He was looking for someone to save him.

Tears blurred Ethan's vision.

I made the hardest decision of my life.

I refused to let him into our home.

Not because I hated him...

But because I refused to let anyone love you only when it became convenient.

Ethan slowly sat down on the floor.

For years, he had wondered why his father had never come.

Now he finally knew.

The last paragraph read:

If one day you ever meet him, don't seek revenge.

Forgiveness will set you free long before punishment ever will.

Inside the envelope was one final item.

A folded piece of paper.

It contained a name.

An address.

And a recent photograph.

His father was still alive.

For several minutes, Ethan stared silently at the picture.

Finally, he slipped it into his pocket.

"There are questions," he whispered.

"But Grandma already gave me the answers."

The next morning, Ethan drove to the address alone.

May you like

He had no idea...

That the meeting waiting for him would change both of their lives forever.
