CHAPTER 6 — The Final Trap

Three weeks later...

Michael contacted Daniel directly.

"No police."

"Come alone."

"You deserve the truth."

The meeting location stunned everyone.

The same waterfall.

The same cliff.

The place where everything had begun.

Against every warning...

Daniel went.

This time...

He walked to the edge on his own feet.

The sunset painted the waterfall blood red.

Michael was already waiting.

Calm.

Relaxed.

Almost happy.

"You finally came."

Daniel stared at him.

"Why?"

Michael laughed softly.

"You still don't understand."

"I never wanted your money."

"I wanted your life."

"You had the father."

"You had the company."

"You had respect."

"You even had the wife."

"I spent my whole life..."

"Watching everyone choose you."

Daniel shook his head.

"You convinced Claire to kill me."

Michael smiled.

"I didn't convince her."

"I simply gave greed a chance."

"If she had truly loved you..."

"None of this would've happened."

Suddenly...

Michael pulled out a pistol.

"I have one last move."

Before he could raise it...

A red laser dot appeared on his chest.

Then another.

Then five more.

SWAT officers emerged from every direction.

Michael froze.

Daniel smiled calmly.

"You taught me chess."

"I learned."

Michael looked around in disbelief.

"You recorded everything?"

Daniel nodded.

"The phone call."

"The meeting."

"Your confession."

"Exactly as you planned for me."

As officers handcuffed Michael...

He burst into uncontrollable laughter.

"You think you've won?"

Daniel remained silent.

Michael leaned closer and whispered,

"There was never only one secret."

"You still don't know..."

"What really happened the day you became disabled."

Before Daniel could ask another question...

Michael was taken away.

Leaving behind one final mystery.

Daniel stood at the edge of the cliff where he was supposed to die.

The waterfall thundered below.

The nightmare was over.

Or so he believed.

Because buried beneath the rocks...

May you like

Someone else's secret...

Had waited eighteen years to be discovered.
